I am confused.

Well they are very similar actually and look at the prices. A reliable source told me the first few dont count.
 
Also, if gaming is your thing, then the i5 seems to be far superior by looking at the FPS comparison near the bottom, which is why is so often recommended for gaming builds.

Both are good CPUs, but it looks clear that the i5 is the better CPU by approx 30%

Although i do agree that the way some reviews / posts are worded maybe you would expect more than 30% more powerful, but also don't forget that the comparison is without any OC and the i5 will go higher.

(the only thing i am a fanboy of is my wallet and will the parts i buy work my PC well)
 
Don't see what the op is confused about? In most of the real world applications the i5 wins, with the phenom being fairly close in rendering and encoding because all of it's cores are fully utilised. Overclock the i5 to 4.8GHz and it's performance increases by 50% obliterating the phenom. No contest between the cpu's and AMD's pricing is quite frankly absurd.
