I am getting artifacts, help!

I am running an amd xp@3200, 1gig ram, radeon x800, now I don't usualy play games other than solitaire, so now that I got the new tomb raider I was like, yeah man nice game! But I keep on getting artifacts, like, say I am moving through a tunnel, the bit in the top or the botton of the screen might "flicker", the textures seem to just flicker and you see some white or black stuff instead.

I got a artic cooler (that's what's it called?) on is so it really shouldn't be due to heat, aslo the gpu is left at default clock.

I am useless wit gfxs so be kind!

Do you have the latest GFX card drivers installed?

Try using the ATI tool to underclock your card slightly.

could be just the game because its new and whenever a new game comes out ati needs to get new drivers out to support it

seriously though its probably just the game but i can only say that if you have ran ati tool artifact tester

Use Ati tool to increase the fan percentage and hold it at 100%. It runs at a ridiculously low speed at default.
Then try the game if it is cured then temps are a problem. Reseat the Arctic cooler using Silver.
I definetly think this is down to heat.
Either the AC has never been properly seated and it's only now through gaming you notice or the dust build up in the AC fins are clogged.
Dust clogging up the cooler raises my temps all the time. i have to regularly strip out the card and cooler and clean it out properly.

Having said all that it could be down to wrong or poorly installed drivers.
What drivers you running and whoinstalled them.
When was the last time you played a game and what game was it.
