Hi all

I have Geil Black Dragon 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel sitting in my computer right now.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate (x64), task manager says I have a total of 4059 physical memory.

Running Belarc Advisor I see this

4060 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

Slot 'A0' has 2048 MB
Slot 'A1' is Empty
Slot 'A2' has 2048 MB
Slot 'A3' has 2048 MB

I have looked at my motherboard, the RAM is installed in the 3 slots furthest from the CPU.

Is this normal or is something not right?

Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156)
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard

Test each module individually, you might have a issue with one of them also check the manual for running 3 memory modules.

The Properties menu on My Computer says

Installed memory (RAM): 6.00 GB (3.96 GB usable)

Do you have a 32bit OS installed?

If so, that is your problem. 32bit Windows can only address just under 4GB of RAM. To utilise more than that, you will have to install a 64bit OS.

The op is running 64bit, 2nd sentence ;)

Ah yes, fair enough.

OP can you just go to computer properties and confirm that it says "System type: 64bit Operating System" and not "32bit Operating System"?

I have installed the wrong version by accident before, and its not something you would necessarily notice until you want to use more than 4GB of RAM. :)

If you have integrated video, it could also be that 2GB of RAM is dedicated to the GPU.

You might need to reseat the CPU. I remember with some of the original i7s had a similiar problem with Gigabyte boards due to the CPU not making proper contact with the pins.

On the other hand, surely your RAM will just be running in single channel? Your board does not support triple channel, and you need 2/4 sticks for dual channel.

Some motherboards can support three sticks of RAM with two running in dual channel and one in single channel.

I'm not sure if that Gigabyte is one of those motherboards though.

you need an extra stick to get dual channel hence the missing memory in windows

so 4 sticks of 2gb in all the slots or 2 sticks of 4gb in the white slots
