I have an old Acer Aspire laptop that I use for work, I was using it the other day and got bored so I started to Tweak it a little, one thing lead to another and I made a few enquiries how much it would cost to get some new components. RAM was a good deal and I could fit it myself, the same with the HHD. I settled on getting a new SSD HD for it. Crucial 240GB 2.5in SSD to be precise.

I fitted it this afternoon, only took 10 minutes..... The difference is astounding !! I cant believe how fast everything loads up... before it was fitted the start up would take 45-60 seconds- Now does it in 10 flat. It used to take a quite a while to run Office 365 but now its just a few seconds.

Superb peice of kit.. get some

Yup

Fitted my first SSD in 2010, then within a day ordered SSDs for all machines in the house. Now I only use HDD in my NAS and for backups.

The main boost in speed is the super fast access time, the actual throughput has little to do with it :)

5 years late to the game aren't you :)

But yeah it does breathe life into old laptops. The super responsiveness makes it a dream to use.

Yeah, the perceived difference between SATA SSD's and NVME/M2 still isn't apparent, which makes them a waste of money IMO. Mabye when the price gap narrows, but for now it's SATA all the way.

Its the advice I give everyone that talks to me about an old laptop thats slow and they are thinking of buying a new one thats faster (amazing how many people consider a £500-600 laptop for basic use)... Generally they are simply using for internet, email, music playback, netflix and office stuff. Stick an SSD in, reinstall windows and its as fast as a fast thing. Happy campers!
