Alright, I got my OCZ and Lian Li PC7 around 4 days ago. Now, I am ordering everything except the graphics card. Just a way to fool myself that I am not paying the whole thing :) Also, to keep me exited, while the GT gets released. Please note, don't worry about the delivery charges as it is free.

Thank you guys.

Yea thought about that. But I am not going to OC my CPU straight away. Although, it would be pain to get another cooler later and replace it. I need Thermal Paste as well, right? Could you suggest a cooler then. I will think about it. I don't want it to be expensive really. Cheapest as possible.

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

£27.99
£32.89 inc VAT

Is what I would have. Awesome for the price.

Alright, considering it is that price. I think, I will leave it for now. But as I said, I will OC later on.

I have couple of questions though, yes, I am going to read manuals. But, I just want to make sure some questions are answered.

Alright, my Mobo has 8 SATA connectors:

Both my Optical Drive and HDD are SATA, do those two get connected in the same SATA slot on the motherboard? I mean, are they both going to be on the purple one or each one should have it's own?

Second question. In order for the RAM to work as a dual channel, I need to put each stick in the yellow OR red slots, right? Green for DDR3.

Cheers

I wouildn;'t buy a ddr2 and ddr3 mobo. I dont think they are as good at overclocking the ram. And ddr3 wont be mainstream for a year or so so you can get a new mobo by then with a new 6core cpu lmao.

When you think about it. That mobo is the same price as the DDR2 one. Whats differnt?

:EDIT:

I dont know for certain but the purple one could be for raid or somthiong. Well it seems specail as its a differnt colour.

I am not really buying it for DDR3. It's just the cheapest that I found, but at the same time has good reviews.

I dont know for certain but the purple one could be for raid or somthiong. Well it seems specail as its a differnt colour.

You think, it will tell me in the manual?lol

In my experience Gigabyte manuals are pretty damned good in my experience, it should tell you pretty much evertything, including that and more.

The purple ports run off the JMicron controller that has been bolted to the board to provide the single IDE port.

They work fine, but you're a tiny bit better using the orange Intel ports.

Alright, is there any reason they put them in pairs? Sorry for such silly questions. But, hey, I wouldn't mind asking as long as I know what I am talking about.

Thanx all.

AFAIK the purple ports are from the gigabyte's own SATA raid chipset while the 6 orange SATA sockets are from the Intel ICH9 southbridge so I'd just use the orange sockets.

And yes in order to get dual channel you insert ram in the same colour sockets.

Considering how much you've already spent and how much you're about to spend £30 isn't really that much. Besides it's better if you install all the first time rather than having to remove the mobo later when you get a new cooler.

The Intel stock cooler comes with paste pre-applied but if you want maximum cooling get arctic silver AS5 or MX1.
