Thank you for contacting the Sky Help Centre regarding your broadband connection.

Unfortunately our configuration tool does not allow us to specifically configure a line to a SNR any lower than 7dB.

I hope this helps with your enquiry. If you require any further assistance you can reply to this email or contact the Broadband Technical team on 08442 410 515, where one of our advisors will be happy to help.

Kind regards

Ewan

Is he speaking the truth or do I have to phone up?

stats

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4089 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.5 db 24.7 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 12.0 db

What router you got?

If its a DG834GT, just flash it with custom firmware and then you can change the SNR whenever you want. I bought a sky router on the cheap to do that on my o2 BB connection :p.

That is correct.

Having a profile lower than 6db can cause instabilites on the line and SKY wont go below that.

I think its only BE or 02 that will go that low.

Changed it but still cannont connect above 4Mb

My stats have changed slightly

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.0 db 27.5 db
Noise Margin 18.0 db 16.0 db

Hi, using the Sagem fast2504(Sky Unlimited)) myself and its a solid router 3PC'S plus 1 PS3 connected, no problems gaming etc.

What speed did Sky say you could possibly get, are you out of your 2 week line training period? Phone the Broadband Technical team on 08442 410 515 they will help you out.

When l had problems with my connection they did everything possible to sort it out.

IS your router connected at the Master Socket?

Your noise margins (SNR) are worse now. What did you change?

His SNR margins are better. His attenuation has dropped from 46.5db to 43db. Ring sky and ask to be put on a 6db margin. Thats the lowest they put it, you can then adjust it further with DGTeam firmware.

I'm confused. He's gone from

"Noise Margin 7.6 db 12.0 db"

to

"Noise Margin 18.0 db 16.0 db"

How is that better? He's further away from 6dB for downstream link.

ghost101 ;

The SNR generally starts to drop the higher you sync at. Hence when they say "the target snr is 7db"

I.e. they will keep upping the speed until the SNR drops to 7db. So the higher you can get your SNR the more speed you'll squeeze out of your line.

On another note to the OP what did you do to boost your SNR over 100%??

He is connected at the same speed with a higher SNR margin = Greater maximum speed :D

rebooted :D

The last time I sink'd I was in the 10 training period

Will I have to tell sky now to put me back down to 7dB or will it go itself?

In my MySky they say theve completed testing and have set my line to 4096k down and 800k up

When you put it that way, yeh it is good.

I just thought he did something to increase his noise margin with no deterioration in overall speed rather than going the other way.
