and bought Cubase 5  Legal software everybody! Congratulate me! :D:p
Anyone had any experience with it? Is it as good as the reviews say... which let's be fair, is nothingshort of awesome.

I use it twice a week (about 8 hours p/w), and i find it really stable and easy to work with.

Pair it with any decent CPU/memory combo and you'll be flying. CPU usage in Cubase 4/5 is absolutely amazing, far better than SX3 ever was, especially with multi-core processing.

The re-designed colours also make it far more appealing to the eye over long periods. Just gives the whole application a different, more professional appeal.

Edit: It's also got full 64-bit support if you choose to go that route.

I'll be running a brand new i7 with 6GB ram and 64-bit.... this is the main reason I chose to make the purchase really. Didnt want to put all that hardware to waste with SX3

It's the only way to get hold of C4/5 as it's extremely unlikely that it'll ever be hacked like SX3 was.
But it's a good DAW, been using C4 (and demo'd C5) a fair amount over the last year, mainly for 8.0 (circular speaker setup) audio projects, pretty stable (although C4 had bugs galore).
As for 64bit, double check that all of your VSTs/Plugins work as i had a few 32bit VSTs that didn't want to know even though C4/5 have this "vst bridge".

Greenlizard0 - Cubase 5 is around the £450 mark, whilst Cubase Studio 5 (slightly cut down, missing a few features) is about £300. Is a good bit of a kit but you can pick up a Protools setup for that price, be it an M-audio 2626 interface (offers so some of the best preamps for the price) and Protools M-powered.

I got the educational discount as a student...; £250 for the full version of Cubase 5.

I 'did' have a Mackie Onyx 400F that I got second hand for £280, but it blew up after 30 mins of use.
It's at the repair shop, but they've said they dont know if they can repair it becuase of massive damage. It was only a couple of years old, but just outside of warranty.
Apparently they've had quite a few with blown PSU's... I can't beleive mackie must just use ****ty power supplies for their units. It should never have blown up like that.

Mackie are a nightmare at the moment too, the official repair times are huge. The new factory should be kicking in at some point though .. ..

I have SX3 and I only use it for it's MIDI editor as Logic's is pretty bad still and I'm still not keen on the Pro Tools one.
Don't have any experience with version 5, only version 4.
