I just cut off my arms in Morrowind. I've somehow managed to lose/sell a quest item and I've no idea where or how. I can't proceed through the main quest line without this item.

In Balmora, you are sent to the Fighter's Guild to ask for information about the Sixth House. From there you go to get an artifact from the ruins across a bridge. Upon returning the artifact you get a note to give to a guy call Cosades. I've lost the note. It's not in my inventory. I didn't go straight to Cosades, it would seem. I was playing late last night and I was very tired. To be honest I can't remember what I did, but the note is gone.

I've been to every vendor I can think of to see if I've sold it, but none of them have it. I do not have a save prior to accepting the quest, nor one where the note is in my inventory.

Is there a way I can use the game's data files and my save file to give myself the note? I know it's cheating. But I don't want to have to start again.

Find the quest on the wiki and either add the item into the game or fiddle with the quest status to either before you got the note or after you handed it in.

I found the quest on the Wiki. But how do I add the item into the game? Do I edit the game save file in notepad? It's all scrambled and very hard to make out what's what. There are words in there that can be searched for, but it's totally incoherent.

I've found the item code: bk_a1_2_antabolistocosades

Where do I add this in the save file? Thanks so far. And yes, the arms thing was a metaphor.

Look for the morrowind console command list, its a pretty easy google search. Theres a wiki page on it too.

player.additem might be it, as might setquest (those are from Fallout 3 I think... but they should be similar).

Ah I though he seriously cut of hiss arms and was going well you might have accidentaly dropped the items with no arms and all but it was a metaphor.
