Not a ******* chance if you want to crew with these guys :p

http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/history/orders/beards/

  1. The growing of a beard whilst serving in the Royal Yacht is permitted provided that the beard is respectable by the time the Standard is broken and the first time it appears in public.
  2. The rules are as follows: The granting of a request to discontinue shaving will carry with it an automatic stoppage of leave for 14 days. At the end of this time the beard will be inspected and a further 14 days stoppage may be given. Should the beard still be untidy after 28 days the order to continue shaving will be given. The stoppage of leave applies to members of all sports and recreation parties where there is the slightest chance of meeting anyone outside the Royal Yacht. Requests for leave to take part in representative games will not necessarily be granted.
  3. Except for medical reasons a request to continue shaving will not be granted within 6 months of the granting of the request ‘to grow’.

Since the appearance of Royal Yachtsmen in public must be impeccable at all times, permission to grow may be withheld from Quartermasters, boats crews and other Royal Yachtsmen whose duties are likely to take them ashore after the request is made.

I shall be (attempting) to grow my first ever beard and moustache combo this autumn, and the devil to any Quartermaster - Royal or otherwise!

omg!!! That is awesome in ways that redefine awesome... into something that no longer means awesome! WTF?

As for the royal yacht.... also wtf? That's some pretty serious rules right there - i know i couldn't live like that.

Thread reminded me that I needed to trim my *stubble*, so I went to do that, but half way through the battery on my trimmer went flat, so now I look silly until it recharges :(

By the way, what does it mean by 'stoppage of leave'?

my shaver can be used whilst charging. Odd that yours can't

Really?

Is it the truth that the longest extension lead you possess is too short to reach between your bathroom mirror and the nearest socket?

If so, then get thineself to B&Q tomorrow young man!

Must agree with the above, though my beard is somewhat wiry, and not quite how I would like, I just cannot stand the sight of myself clean shaven these days..

I bought a DE razor after getting all excited and manly over the shaving thread about 2 years ago. To be fair, i've not bought any shaving equipment at all since then, and i have a bloody lovely shave when i actually do it, but i've gone from shaving every 2 or 3 days to every 2 or 3 weeks.

I now think i look too young and boyish if i'm clean shaven - i rather suit 3-10mm or so if stubble. I doubt it would pass muster on the good ship Royal though

Is there a foolproof way of growing stubble?

Just wondering, I know a lot of people think shaving causes stubble to grow but I believe this is hogwash.
