I can hear EVERYTHING!

I suffer with excess wax build up (it's hereditary apparently :( )
Have had my ears syringed more times than I can actually remeber,

Having listened to the advice of many doctors and nurses over the years and from personal experience I can offer this
syringing is bad as it strips all the wax out of the ear and triggers the body to over-produce more.
all ear drops are rubbish, olive oil works best using the following method.
1 - boil kettle and pour a cup full
2 - place teaspoon in hot water for a few seconds to heat up
3 - take out teaspoon and dry it
4 - put olive oil in spoon and "swill" around for a few seconds to heat up the oil
5 - tilt head to one side and pour oil in, leave for a few seconds
6 - put head back and wipe the oil with tissue
Otex ear drops are especially bad, you can hear it fizzing and popping in your ear, and it did actually burn/irritate my ear canal quite badly
this sometimes cures it on it's own and I don't need a trip to the nurse, other times I do need syringing though, it tickles more than anything else. and it's always disgusting to see the big brown lumps of wax come out as well (nurse did comment that mine were the worst she had ever seen heh heh)

I do have wax, and occasional popping where everything sounds clearer for a few seconds (as others have mentioned), but I wouldn't say I have a hearing problem. I did well for a 35 year old on that sound test recently.

I have had nothing but problems with my ears. I have tinnitus and for the last few months terrible ear pains. I've been to the ent, had cameras shoved up my nose and ears. I don't have terrible wax problems, but as I always cleaned them with cotton buds I can see how it just creates more, so my ears hurt due to probably a psychosomatic reaction to the tinnitus. They itch like hell due to wax and ring ring ring.

I had my ears syringed about a year ago and the first week after was worse then not being able to hear. The slightest noise was agony!

I always remember a TV doctor (Hilary Jones?) saying, "never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear".

I used to quite like the sensation of syringing until they brought out the syringing machines and I can't stand the buzzing noise they make. I did it myself last time with a syringing kit from Otex. I've had my ears syringed loads of times so I feel I know how to do it safely, but I've got no idea how Otex managed to get it on the market. Scope for self-inflicted ear damage must be enormous

I keep hearing popping when I yawn and swallow and my right ear's hearing is definitely worse than the left. I struggle to hear conversations in pubs or places with lots of ambient noise. Been meaning to go for months but I think I'm semi-scared that it's something more than just wax.

I tried otex and it left me with ringing in my left ear :/. So be careful of that stuff folks.

I have been like this for 6+ months now, started a new job today and I could only just hear conversations with people standing 10m away. :( I might go to the doctors next week.

Go dude, that's how it was for me before it got really bad. I was sitting in meetings at work where I couldn't hear what people sitting opposite me were saying. Now I can hear ants having sex

I had a similar issue a while back. Had some heavy wavy buildup in both ears. I had to put almond oil in my ears for a week to soften the wax, then a nurse at my local GP used some sort of hot water gun to blast the wax out of my ears.

The difference in my hearing was incredible. I had no idea how much my hearing had been gradually declining as the wax slowly built up until I could hear again at full volume.

I had something similar last December, at least I thought I did. Once I went and they checked it out turned out it was an infection of a build up of fluid behind the drum.

Almond oil really is good. Warm of course. They also gave me tablets and the nasal spray. Came back to get it syringed. Turned out it wasn't needed. Between that and the almond oil it was all cleared up.

Though one point it was terrible before I saw the GP. I started feeling dizzy and ready to pass out when it screws with your hearing. What a relief it was when the tablets got rid of the fluid.

How do you know whether they're at all blocked or not? Sometimes I think mine might be a little, but can't really tell just from sticking my finger in my ear or whatever.

Only your GP can with the little thingymajig that has the light. Thats when she saw the fluid build up behind the drum.

Thats such an awesome feeling with almond oil and the little squeezy pip thing they supplied.

Yep. That was the first thing my GP asked, you don't use cotton buds do you? amazing the amount that use cotton buds.

I've (by other people looking and commenting) noticed I talk a hell of a lot louder these days, not sure if it's build up or just hearing loss from work. Really nervous about hospitals in general but I think i'm going to have to get this done before I annoy people shouting all the time :(

I use cotton buds in my ears, I think my hearing is pretty good, no problems hearing up to 18khz in sound tests.

My problem is I can't see, glasses fix this though. Also I used to have a super sense of smell but I feel like my nose has been partially blocked for about a year, can I get my nose syringed?

I used to have the same problem tried everything home made and over the counter stuff but what finally worked for me was a few squirts of water with a bulb syringe in the shower that removed huge chunks of nasty ear wax from my ear. I could hear a fly fart from a mile away for a couple of days :)

You can get a liquid that dissolves ear wax which can help prevent the build up in the first place. You can hear it working as well, which is properly strange.

Earex. Although OP would have presumably tried that first.

If you want to go this route then just buy a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a syringe from the chemist. Does the same thing, costs a lot less.
