And also everything else you do in bed. It's not that bad as he is a divorcee with a new GF, so is over hers a lot.

Having moved from rented new build, where the sound of a mouse fart travelled through the wall, myself and the misses were happy to have bought a house built in the 60s made from brick.
How wrong we were. We can hear everything, their phone alarms, them talking etc.

What the hell can I do. I am assuming that there is a cavity wall between us. The property has no inner wall insulation as far as I can tell (walls get very cold), so I am wondering if this might help.
Shy of this I am thinking of drilling a series of holes into the walls and pumping in expanding foam.
The house is not big enough to be messing about with celetex and plasterboard, as I'd lose inches per room and we've already done the plastering (cba to do it again)

What genius solutions are there to not having to listen to a aging man groan at night time for 3 minutes. :(

TDLR : I can hear my neighbour banging, help!

How far into the room does it travel? my neighbours unfortunately have their TV and speakers on the wall right behind my bed despite it being a fairly thick wall - where my head normally lies it is quite clear when they have the volume up at "day time" volumes while where my feet normally are its significantly quieter. Fortunately so far between their schedule and my own it hasn't been a big deal.

He has his bed on the Party wall, we have ours on the opposite wall, facing it. So we aren't right next to the offending wall, yet can hear them fairly clearly if they talk loudly.
Strangely I can't hear the misses from one room to another and they're just cinderblock walls.
The noise in the livingroom isn't so bad as the chimneys seems to deaden the sound.
We are looking into insulation systems for cavities, since I (we) believe that the air cavity is resonating the sound like a speaker through our wall. I have yet to get the measuring tape out between the driveways to see if I was wrong and it's a single skin brick wall. (It can't be really as I have drilled into and put plug sockets into it, that would end up in his bedroom if it were.

I am going to move the cupboard over the wall after christmas to try and absorb the sound also.
Nightmare.

That's a last solution. Given it only happens about once a week, it's not gona be a major issue, but over time it's not what we want.
We also don't want to have to think about being ultra quiet to stop him hearing us.

I have the skill base to install it and even plaster over it, just decorated so aint happening for a long time.
Does anyone have experience of having cavity wall insulation in the partition wall??? Is that even a thing?

Had the same issue with a neighbour for the last four years.

I moved to a detached bungalow, it is the only real way to get away from noise.

There are good soundproofing systems but it depends how much it bothers you!

Funny I should read this now while I've just listened to my neighbour blow their nose and shower. 60s council house so expected it to be a bit more solid..

My room is currently next to their bathroom. I want to move to the other bedroom for the view but that will be next to their bedroom so I'll have to do a trial run to see how much night time noise there is :o

I'm going to subtly ask him about his heating and how we're losing a lot of warmth (probably through the old windows) but has he had cavity wall insulation. It's a 50s/60s bungalow. It's solidly built, so I'm astonished we can hear anything really. He's a bricky I believe, so he might have a solution. Not a horrible neighbour in the slightest.

I live in a 50s semi, which is built like tank. Despite this I can hear our neighbours, but not at the level you can.

Few times a week while winding down in bed, we have to put up with their sex noises which can only be described as a screaming pigeon being attacked by a fox. I normally play some music when this happens. Outside of this, unless they are talking at a loud level we cannot hear them.

During summer we always sleep with a fan on, meaning we cannot hear anything at night. You could look at a white noise machine.

Unfortunately a detached house round here starts at around £450k.

That's so weird and personal.

Perils of having a semi detached house. We had a neighbour with young kids and every day all you could hear was them shouting and screaming and rushing down the stairs. In the end we got fed up and moved. Thankfully we were only renting but unless I can help it I will be remaining in a detached house and have done for he last 6 years.

Don't fill the cavity, it's more likely to create damp issues than resolve noise and you would be liable for any remedial works to both properties.

The only solution is a proper sound deadening system. It will also add value to your property even if you lose some floor space.
