I can move my cursor but can't click

Hi as above........., i can press windows key on keyboard and start menu comes up but cant click on it or use keyboard to navigate it. it works fine for a few mins then the clicking not working starts. i cant click desktop icons or anything.

crtl+alt+esc brings up task manager but again cant click.

its a windows xp media edition HP (Pavillion 9000?) laptop, cant remember exact model as its at home, dont think its a laptop specific problem so ive posted in here.

Seems very strange

Help would be great.

What happens if you go into the BIOS of the laptop, can you navigate inside of that using the keyboard? If not, it would suggest a k/b fault. If you can, a repair of windows might be worthwhile.

ok i'll try that when i get home. btw i've tried the touch pad aswell as a usb mouse and the same applies
