What the internet provides for free is not a good place to start.

If you have a WD drive then there is a WD version of Acronis which does HDD copying and partitioning. Will not work if you don't have a WD drive.

Win vista & 7: search for: "partitions" on the control panel

in this Case (and many others), Open source leads the way.

GParted is the most effective partition editor and management program i've ever used.

I know what you mean OP. There are few good ones, though as suggested, gparted is the way to go in my opinion.

I've had problems with Acronis Disk Director just deleting my partitions in the past.

Windows has a built in partition manager that can expand, create and delete partitions or resize them down etc.

Works well....
