I have been reading for ages but never quite got my head around it. Tonight I raised FSB to 230 on my Northwood 2.6 and have a 3ghz chip.

I am very proud!

respect to Custom PC mag and this site............

Custom PC mag? pfft. I am glad this site filled u in with the holes and corrections.

Now don't let it happen again!

lol - Custom pc is a good toilet read but I would be carefull regarding the validity of some of the advice they give.

I hope that now you have got your overclock to work you can concentrate on your caps lock.;)

Its up to 241 and still going without touching vcore.....Although 242 raises the ram over 400 and that worries me a little.....So what shall I do? Keep going and see if I can start the Nov 5th celebrations early or stop now while I feel proud enough to shout (hence caps lock, if you had not guessed!!:p

Nice one :) It should go a bit higher as well. I remember having a 2.4 Northwood @ 3.3 :D

Are you using a custom cooler? If so which one? I have an old p4 2.6 northwood back at home with stock and i was wondering if i could push it a bit further without the need for a new cooler

Custom at the mo as it came with the second hand job lot. Since I still havent touched the vcore I assume temp is not really an issue?? Or is that dumb.

Up to 3.2 now at 245. The Ram is now pushing 405 so is over spec. If I push it more will I need to play with latency or voltage?

I guess so... What mobo do you have? My old one is a 865PE, with DDR400

Did those old mobos have memory dividers? If not how come and at 200+ its not over specced? Did you benchmark the thing? is it stable? Whats the difference compared to your older clock?

Get coretemp 0.95.4 (i think that the latest) and make sure your temps don't go too high. I have an amd 3700 @ 2.8 and that doesn't go above 55oC (on load), so at a guess I'd say keep temps below 60oC (on load) if you can. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

It's better to be safe than sorry.
