I thought i'd ask anyway see if anyone would like to shed some light.

Behaviour:

Playing games is fine for around an hour, then randomly i get a bluescreen. It then bsod'd after playing a game (i.e. turning off game) screensaver came on then, bsod.

looking at the stop messages:

They seem quite generic, code 0x00000124 , hal.dll seems to be causing it.

I've looked at a lot of things, crucial m4 256 ssd is up to date fw wise, pny reference nvidia 580 has the latest drivers, ram is stock speeds.

My temps are a little high, but even when i run prime95 it never bsods. It even gets up to 98 degrees on load (so i'm working on getting a new cooler and reseating etc).

Could anyone perhaps suggest me what i might do to try and troubleshoot this? i'm a little lost as it's been working ok for a while.

Really appreciate any help and obviously if you have anyquestions, ask away

Okey dokey!

So i'll try another reseat tonight, on my cpu i thought it was best to do the 'line method' for the paste, so tonight i'll try the 'pea' method.

Other information then,

Bit Fenix Survivor
i7 2600k @ 4.6Ghz
Asus P8Z68-V Pro Mobo
8Gig Ram Kingston HyperX
Crucial M4 256 SSD
9TB data
PNY Reference Nvidia 580
Corsair HX 750
CPU Cooling Corsair H50 with apache black fan.

Is there anything else i should be looking for with regard to the bsod? any troubleshooting i can perform?

With so many components i'm just a bit lost tbh

Ok i'm going to go ahead and admit it, i made a mistake, i have a A50 not a H50... , sorry fellas, although i can imagine much of the advice is still relevant. I should have known better.

Do you guys think this BSOD issue could be the temperature...? i've done windows memory diagnostics and they have come back fine. I have a crucial m4 ssd and it's been absolutely fine up until now, the only thing i thought it might be is the motherboard bios version? i got it from OCUK about 2-3 months ago and it's a little out of date so i'm going to try doing that tonight too.

Will check the voltages and report back, i've been advised that for 4.6 i need to be at 1.365 and i'm currently at 1.368.. can't see that making much difference mind you.

Thanks guys you've been really helpful so far.

Erm not sure what this IBT stuff is... but i have reseated now and i'm getting 82 on load (prime95 for 10mins) mid 30s at idle. Is this normal?

The stop message is,

Crash address: ntoskrnl.exe + 705c0
Caused by address: hal.dll + 12903
Bug checkCode: 0x00000124
Parameter: fffffa80'0a2fe028

Does this help at all?

I have now adjusted my core coltage to 1.365

Would it be totally unreasonable then if you guys could start your own thread? i'm not even sure how you guys got onto this one tbh but thanks for your help anyway.

I'll try another reseat tonight, but i don't see what i'm doing wrong at present, even left eh case open!

Thats really helpful thank you.

I am newish to OCing on these newer chips which is why i got OCUK to do it for me in their bundle, so i'm just changing what was setup for me tbh to get it stable again.

At 80 degrees it seems much more stable and i've tried the IBT test too and it was fine for 10 iterations.

I am not so good on these bluescreens tbh as i was getting them before with OCZ Vertex 3 and then again from a dodgy g card, all in the same build!!

Appreciate it though, i'm popping a better cooler tomorrow, Noctua dual fan job and will report back with temps then. If there is anything else you can think of, please let me know, thanks again.

Ok new cooler, updated bios, new voltage set to 1.365.

Got the Noctua DH14 - runs idle at 30-33 load 68-70. Seems much better.

I've used LinX (10times), Prime95 (20mins) and IBT (30 iterations)

Is there anything else i should try. Seems to be stable on above..

I set IBT to 'all'

4.6 is what i'm at, noticed that in power settings the power settings had the proc on minimum 100%... changed that to 5 so now it downclocks at idle which has helped i think
