Hi guys,

My main storage drive is failing, it has been for the past couple of months so I've decided to buy a couple of replacements from OCUK today.

I'm in the process of copying all the data off the drive to another one I have, this is a slow process as intermittently the drive will just die and be unrecognisable by Windows. Que a reboot, drive being unplugged/plugged back in. Seatools reported some pretty catastrophic sector problems, not sure if they can be fixed.

Anyway, I have one file that I can't move, it;s a 256mb mov file shot on my iPhone and it stops copying at 68% the vid plays fine so doesn't appear to be corrupted. I just tried filecopy and it also fails to copy it.

Can anyone suggest anything to get it off this drive? It's a vid of my daughter so not one I want to lose.

Thanks

yeah, play the movie and use some screen recording software to save this to a good drive.

Also look at Google's unlimited drive storage option.

Worst case, play it and record it on your phone, quality will be worse but at least you have a copy.

Unstoppable copier may be worth a go, it has some settings you can tweak for best data recovery

I would give this a go - it should be able to copy majority of the file and "pad" the missing/errored block (which makes next to no difference in video files, might just result in a corrupt frame or difficulty seeking that part of the file)

Without the risk of stating the obvious, have you checked that the video isn't still on your iphone?

Also, super brave knowing that your drive is failing and leaving it so long.

2013, is it on Google Photos or iCloud?

chkdsk 'might' fix it. Or break it more :D

Also, my favourite quote.. just restore it from your backu..........
