Hey guys,

Just received the Creative SB Xifi on Wednesday i.e. yesterday, and installed it on the bottom PCI slot of my motherboard. When I switched the computer on, it came up with the Windows XP desktop, but in 4 bit colour. The installation of the drivers for the xifi went without a glitch... and i can hear songs properly.

In the control panel, I checked the system->hardware->devices and found that there was a ! icon next to the graphics card. It said there was a code 12 error, "this device cannot find enough free resources". The xifi is okay.

I've looked on the net for answers, can't see any that has worked for me. Some have said to remove the other PCI cards in the machine and try putting the xifi in each PCI slot. The AGP slot has my graphics card. This gives same result as above.

I've tried resetting my CMOS, however that has not changed stuff. I cannot change the IRQs of devices unless I reinstall Windows (and change appropiate settings in BIOS).

My specs is a Abit IC7, Pentium 4 3GHz, Geforce 7600GT, 2GB ram, and my slots on the tower are:

1) AGP slot - Geforce 7600GT.
2) Shared PCI slot is obscured by gfx card.
3) Serial ATA PCI controller card
4) Serial ATA PCI controller card
5) Network card
6) xifi

As mentioned above, I removed 3,4,5 devices first, and put the xifi into 3,4,5. All gave same results.

I am clueless what to do next :( My SB Live 7.1 USB2 device - a really good sound card - is not working - must have been a surge or what. That is why I got the xifi this week. Would I have to wait till I build a new computer (new motherboard and new windows install) before I can use the xifi?

At the moment, I've taken the xifi out and left it in its anti-static bag. Windows is showing in colours as it should.

Thanks in advance, I hope I gave enough information above.

Thanks for the replies.

As IAmATeaf said, it's a socket 478 processor. I'll try the changing of the irq numbers for the video card.

I think the BIOS is in charge of the irqs. I'll have a quick check.

If no avail after all this, I'll just hold on till I get build a new computer.

Just checked:

irq allocation is set to bios.
I've changed the irqs of the graphics card. No change there...
What I'll do this weekend when I've got some time, I will have to change the irq of the sound card, and see if that makes a difference.

I'm not gonna attempt a bios update just yet...

I've also tried putting diferrent devices in the last slot - Hauppage WinTV for example, and that is working with no hassle.

And all this pallava because of a surge in the usb2 soundcard :(

EDIT: I'm gonna use my onboard sound for the time being, rma the usb2 device, and keep the xifi for future build.
