I can't connnect my Amazon Echo to Spotify

I use my old Amazon Fire tablet to access the Alexa app and when I try and select Spotify as the default music player the screen just goes blank, that is blue, with the Alexa app icons at the bottom of the screen, and nothing happens(?) Anyone know why it's doing that or a way around it?

Have managed to connect it but now it won't play anything. I'll say 'Alexa play (whatever) on Spotify' and she responds, 'Playing (whatever) on Spotify' but then silence, nothing(??)
