Evening all

Im hoping to soon be an owner of a nice new Asrock 4 gen 3 board to go with a new i5 2500k that im treating myself to. The main problem coming from an AM2+ setup is its all new for me DDR 3 ram Intel CPU's and as for the cooler the last cooler i bought was a megahalems gen 1 nearly 3 years ago! It's served me very well indeed i must say keeping my PII 955 32c idle and never hit over 46c underload clocked at 3.7ghz.

Im now stuck in picking a new cooler, i have read lots of reviews and it seems the silver arrow and D14 are the best to go for. I was tempwted to try an Antec Kuhler 620 to have a break from the big cooler look but its got mixed reviews which put me off a little. I understand the 2 air coolers i mentioned are big very big infact and im always wary to is this gonna break my board?

Be really grateful if someone could lend me a hand in choosing a new cooler, im gonna try and clock the i5 to at least 4-4.2ghz to start with and go from there. I dont really have a budget in mind if i am honest. One thing i am curious to know is if you can change the fans supplied with the D14/SA? I have just got some new Enermax appolish led fans that look fab and would love to use them on a new cooler

Thanks again guys

Liam

There's also the alpenfohn k2 you should consider.

Results in Sig.

Thanks for the link mate, very interesting to see how they all compare with each other suprised at some of them as well

Your megahelims is still capable of coping with a new intel cpu. I was using one up until last week. Switched it out for this.

On a par with the SA/D14, and supplied with two very good fans. The front fan is a standard square framed 120mm, therefore you can use any 120mm fan on the front, and the middle section would probably accept a standard shape 120mm fan as well.

I was thinking of perhaps using my megahalems again but the problem being when i bought it there were no 1155 socket sets that came with it and i cant find one anywhere! How are you finding your new cooler?

I have read quite a lot of good things about the Phanteks as of late so might have a look at some people's reviews on it from here

Really impressed with it. Max temp of 73c under LinX. Down 4c from the supermega i was using. And the noise is a lot lower with the supplied Alpenfohn fans. I was using akasa vipers on the mega, rather loud at speeds above 1400 rpm. You could try contacting Prolimatech to see if they could send you a bracket. The one that i got with the super mega features mounting holes for s775/1155/6 and 1136.

Few pics of the k2 fitted in my rig.

This, just make up a story, like you moved or something and lost the bracket.
@ Setter, How many coolers is that now? :p
You should start doing reviews, you gone through that many :D
Nice setup by the way :)

Lol, thanks. I have used quite a few. Off the top of my head.

TRUE x2
Thermolab baram
Titan fenrir
Sunbeam core contact
Noctua nh12
Prolimatech super mega
Alpenfohn k2
Arctic cooling freezer 7

Most were tried on my old q6600 a few years ago.

Yep, wire clips. Theyre a bit fiddly to fit. But theyre the most secure clips ive used. Much better than the ones on the mega. With it, i was unable to use certain fans. Due to the clips hitting the fan blades. The k2, (like the TRUE) grips the fan by the screw mounting holes. But this means you have to use open corner fans.

As Setter says, the wire clips are a bit fiddly to use at first but once in place, they work very effectively and you can just forget about them after that.

Installation is also very easy, definitely amongst the best.
