I can't get to sleep

Problem. I live in a house with no books. I have to sleep with my cousin usually (I swear if anyone says a word I report them for sexual speech) so it will annoy him if I turn the lights on. He also has to go work at 4:00 in the morning.

No books? The hell?

Get some audio books and use an mp3/cd player.

There was nothing like a good story tape to send me to sleep as a kid!

Member cousin will get annoyed as it may wake him up. I also have a problem with ear-phones going in my ears so no thanks.

+1 very good idea - works a treat.

I also find podcasts (like the Mark Kermode film review podcast) or radio shows (like the XFM Ricky Gervais show) great to listen to in order to get to sleep (not that they are boring, just relaxing and fun). Also, make sure you have some comfy earphones.

edit: ah, just saw the OP's above post - shame that, maybe you haven't found a set of in-ear headphones you are comfortable with yet.

Earphones and I do not mix.

Well I suppose an easy way to get to sleep quickly is to wake up super-early so that you're knackered by bedtime. Lots of exercise during the day, leaving a good gap between eating and bedtime, some milk, and a book or magazine before bed helps me get to sleep. Also, if things are running through your mind, write them down on a piece of paper (keep it by your bed), so a) you remember them tomorrow morning, but b) it helps get your mind clear and relaxed ready for sleeping.
