I'm 39 and i have been playing computer games for 30 years.
I was never amazing at them, probably above average at best.

I had to stop playing the xbox360 because i could only play it with bright
lights on or i would get motion sickness but most games look
better while the lights are off.

I didnt bother pre-ordering a next gen console because it looks like a
gigantic cluster BLEEP!.
8 years they have had to get ready for their next consoles and they screwed up.

so i decided to buy a ps vita and its a nice little handheld but its just highlighted how utterly useless i am in my old age.

im trying to play everybody's golf and i cant hit the ball straight due to my reflexes and its just winding me up.

Wipeout? how can anyone control that mess is beyond me lol.

I'm giving up im to old :(

anyone else hung up their controllers in their older years?

wipeout on the os vita has a whole load of control options to make it easier to control..

I'm 40 this year and whilst I don't play a lot of online games as I'd get a huge whopping by most as my reflexes have dropped I do still enjoy gaming and have a ps4 on pre order . quite looking forward go it , and I do like my pc gaming with steam , just need to find games where you can play or change the difficulty , no shame in playing games on the easiest settings if it means you get to enjoy the story, like last of us, I played it on easy settings as I wanted to enjoy the story not get frustrated with it...

Been playing since the very early days and always lose complete interest towards the end of a generation. Now 41. For example, outside of GTAV, & taking a kickin' from one of my kids on SFIV every now and again. i've really not touched my ps3 / 360 or even 7950 gaming pc all that much.. outside of a tinker here or there. Still love getting the hardware though... Childhood memories perhaps? Gadget man? who knows..

Got my PS4 arriving on Fri and I'm pretty excited about it. Also got a xbox one arriving on the 22nd. Mind you not so excited about that. Hoping to get back into it. But yes gaming does become more of a chore than entertainment the older you get. There are only a certain number of games that i could possibly get into this day and age.

Im now 35 and I seem to love gaming now more than I ever did, (if that was even possible) I have always gamed, I dont have any real hobbies and I dont play Sports, but I do take my gaming seriously, now not competitivly, but I always try to make time for gaming, my very understanding wife knows this lol :P

But I am worried about getting to that age were it just wont be possible to play anymore, when I have kids it will get harder to play that I know.

I dont think I will ever get tired of it................but who knows :)

I think you just get down on games rather than your reflexes going, I can complete Sonic 1 on Megadrive quicker than i could in 1992! I regularly own 12 year olds on BF! Gaming can be demanding however, I regularly break a sweat playing F1 2013.

I'm 36 in just over a week and I love gaming as much as ever. As far as ability goes, with the exception of FPS games I'm usually one of the better players I know. Expert level on Guitar Hero, play Fifa on hardest difficulty, and made Ninja Gaiden on Master Difficulty my bitch. I think if you stop playing then your skill will drop a bit, so keep at it and the skill will no doubt come back :)

I used to be all over FPS games up till 2 years ago. I just can't hold my attention anymore :(

I used to be able to bang in 4-5 hours solid when I was 16. Now 2 hours is my max unless I'm playing a good strategy game (currently planetary annihilation).

I've just turned 38 and my reflexes are still pretty sharp I think, though I've focused on fighting games over the last few years which may have helped.

I'm a little burnt out on them now though and will be playing BF4 on PS4 and expect to get my arse handed to me for a few months seeing as I've never played console FPS. The last FPS I took seriously was COD4 on PC so expect a big learning curve.

It's all fun though.

41 next month, and at the moment I am really enjoying my gaming, but what I have noticed is that I really only enjoy games that have a single player story or rpg's.

Difficulty is not the issue as I have just finished The Last Of Us on Survivor and enjoyed it more than playing it on Normal :)

I've been playing games on consoles and computers since getting a Pong console in the late 70's and in recent years the amount of gaming I do has reduced but that's mainly as after playing MMORPG's far too much for the last decade or so, I can't find an MMO now that hold my interest as they're far too generic now.

I want the slow levelling of DAoC. I want the crafting and BH systems from SWG. I want the death penalties and player driven everything of EVE Online.

But I won't get that ever again.

Im 41 and i suck at games but im not bothered as i dont tend to play many multi player games. Im not an achievement whore either, ill play the game through get as many achievements as possible then take it back to trade for some credit etc.

My first gaming console was the 360, got one launch day and since then ive been hooked on it. Traded it in the other day for the new XB1 console and looking forward to that now.

My missus thinks im a big baby playing video games but all my young life ive seen all my friends get the latest consoles whereas my dad never allowed us such things so me and my brothers had to watch from the sidelines.

Sounds like your eye/hand (fingers) co-ordination needs work, and playing games may help? :p

Seriously, if you don't enjoy it, don't play it, simply as that. I have to say though, everyone goes through a hot and cold patch. Perhaps you are playing the wrong game also, forget wipeout or everybody's golf, perhaps a game where you won't be rushed to make a decision, or need any co-ordination? Final fantasy perhaps, there is a countdown but it is plenty of time to pick you tactics.

But don't dismiss an entire generation of console before it is even released, that thinking is just absurd no matter how you look at it. A console is basically just a blank slate, it is how the games unfold that make or break it.

I'm 44 and yes I don't play nearly as much as I used to and when I do it's mostly for the SP story experience. If I do get into some MP (like BF3) I can pretty much always be in the top 2 or 3 but only if I'm sober! I don't get as frustrated as I used to if I am getting my arse kicked either. I just try to enjoy myself and if I'm not I just stop and go and do something else.

I've been playing consoles and PC since the early 90's and sometimes I phase out and get into something else but at other times I come back and start enjoying it again. Don't worry about it though. It is what it is.

Doesn't gaming keep your hand to eye co-ordination up quite well?

I'm 32 and although I barely touch my 360 anymore (only now GTAV is out) I am still very much enjoying PC gaming.

I'll be 39 in February and have been gaming since the Atari 2600 maybe 30+years ago.
Never taken a break from it, love playing games. I have never had a high skill level so hopefully it hasnt dropped....

Any lower and I probably couldnt hold a controller :p

Im 41, I used to rank top 250 regularly in the world on Quake 2 and Quake 3, i suspect though as one of the guys i played with would often make the weekly top 10 ranks he dragged my skill level up somewhat.

Im pretty average now but I not that hopeless that I can't hit the ball straight in Everybody's golf :D

I hate controllers and always have. I had immense difficulty even with the 2-button NES. It just makes no sense to use only two thumbs when I have eight much faster digits!
On the other hand, while I'm not amazing at PC games either, I can hold my own online for the most part and can sometimes burn through singleplayer games... to teh point where I'll take a couple days leave and just play play play!!
