Hi. I have a noctua nh d15 cooler and a rx 7900xt, I have bought a m.2 pcie adapter to add more storage but I can't add it to the pcie slot because it's blocked by the gpu so I want to mount it vertically but I can't reach the retention pin because it is blocked by the gpu + air cooler. Does anyone know how would i be able to take the gpu out?

Below are some images.

If can't/do not want to remove the Noctua, get something like a plastic or wooden ruler and slide it in between the cooler and GPU to press the release catch.

Do not use anything metal and be careful.
I have tried with a long thick wooden stick but it wasn't strong enough also i was able to pres only the top of the pin as you can see from the last picture. I will buy today trim tool and try it with that. I cant remove the cooler or the motherboard because the screws are blocked by the gpu.

Try to push, slightly, the GPU against the motherboard. May sound counterintuitive, but because cases aren’t perfectly manufactured, it may be pushing your GPU slightly and making almost impossible to unlock the GPU.
Also easier if you get someone to help you.

You have a lot of expensive hardware there I wouldn't want to risk damaging something just to to the GPU release so I would remove the CPU cooler.
He can’t remove the cooler without removing the GPU, sadly. The easy release feature is one thing I don’t go without.
As mentioned before, use a pencil or pen (blunt side) and try to push the locking mechanism while pushing the GPU slightly against the motherboard. That should allow the release mechanism to move.
Brute forcing it is how a managed to break the mechanism on a X370 motherboard. Luckily was able to source a replacement, but could’ve been worst, if the GPU got damaged.

Just get yourself a plastic ruler for £1 (or less).

Think whatever you use, you are only going to be able to press the top part of the catch.

Need to remove the middle fan on the Noctua to get to the screws. Think the GPU stops you from doing that as well though.

This... don't go blind prodding implements down there motherboards are very easy to damage like that they have tiny components soldered to them that are very easy to knock off.

Can't tell if joking ^^^ :D That drive from 1998?

Modern high speed interconnects like to be as close to the CPU as possible which is why everything is crammed up against the side of the CPU socket.

i have an AIO, i can take my NVMe out without taking anything else out.

Closer to 1985.

Thing is with NVME they're the sort of thing you install during new build, at least the ones near the GPU, even the CPU heatsink gets in the way of NVME, I had to angle fingers and screwdriver.

At least with external drives 2.5" and 3.5" you can change and add to hearts content without taking apart your PC.
