Hey all,
This morning I took my computer out of my room and hooked it up to the living room plasma for a bit of fun. I had a lot of hassle getting the right resolutions, and I couldn't actually display my Vista Ultimate OS on the screen; the Vista load bar was there, but when that finished there was nothing.

Although I was annoyed, I carried on browsing and watching videos in Vista Safe Mode. When I was done, I took the machine back upstairs and plugged it all in. And Now my Vista Ultimate OS won't display on my normal monitors either!

I have a rather peculiar monitor setup, and I think that changing this has upset my computer massively. I can get safe mode fine, but anyting else is a no no.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I was going to reinstall CCC from Safe Mode, but you can't do that, bugger.

Cheers, Chris.

Sounds like the resolution needs to be reset when you boot. If your TV cannot handle the resolution you were using before you moved the PC, it's not going to be able to display the picture. Reason why safe mode worked is 'cos its resolution is so low.

There is some way to boot in VGA mode I'm sure, check google.

EDIT: You should be able to remove all your video drivers in safe mode, that way it will boot in 800x600.

I've tried that; booting in low res mode [640 x 480] and that didn't work, and I'm unable to remove any of the drivers for my card in Safe Mode. I can't do a system restore because my system hasn't been making them [bugger!] so I'm a bit stuck.

Heeeelllp!

Chris.

Ok, so there's nothing wrong with your monitor if safe mode is working and you can see the post. You say you can't remove the drivers in safe mode? You should be able to do this, one of the main reasons for safe mode;)

Can you try installing this in safe mode - http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Failing that, I would try the other connections on your 4850x2. Still no luck, then I guess back up your stuff and try a fresh system install.

Really has baffled me this problem

If your graphics card has two ports, you could try swapping over. It may work...

ATI is very fussy about removing drivers in safe mode. You could try going into msconfig (through safe mode) and look for a vga option (basevideo comes up on xp, it might do it). Of course only do this if some of the above (better) methods fail.

Hey guys,
I got there in the end, used a variation of Driver Sweeper and it got rid of all of them. Good stuff! :D

Thanks for all of your help, it's always appreciated :)

Chris.
