In the last 2 months all i have played 360 games wise is a bit of NBA Homecourt and career mode in PGR4. Was just about to finish a few achievements up and complete arcade mode and guess what happens? Mt usually crisp TFT monitor starts to pixelate and make a weird crackling noise. I think nothing of it and restart my 360. After re-loading up PGR4 the whole thing freezes on the main menu (the waving people in the background stop waving :) :) ).

I take a look to my right, suspecting the worse, yep..........the 360 ROD'd on me - giving me a lovely circle of glowing red, but no 360 to play on. After over a year of ownership this will be the second time this happened too :( I'm also 99% sure that PGR4 killed it too. After playing harding anything in months, a good session of the PGR4 has killed it. I'd imagine that like a few other titles, PGR4 is very demanding on the 360 too.

Anyway, I'm taking it back to the shop tomorrow for a brisk exchange :)

Now, I'm in two minds if i should go down the 360 elite route via trading in mt current premium. I'm not fussed about the bigger HD or HDMI, I just really really like the all black design and think it would look a lot better in my room (vain I know). What do you peeps think?

Sod all to do with PGR4 everything to do with crappy build build quality. Everyone always blames the game for some obscure reason. You probably would be hard pushed to find a game that hasn't killed a 360.

Motogp was in one drive when mine died
Graw in another
An arcade game in another

McDaniels Died playing Lego Star wars, i'd bet my house that the demands of LSW didnt kill it.

Its ***** **** build quality that killed your 360 not anything on a disc.
 
Aye fair enough, your probably right. After over a year of denying it, the build quality on these things is pathetic. In my case, i assumed it was PGR4 as thats all iv played in months really.

After my launch day 360 died the death twice i traded it in for an elite.
At least with the elite you no it has the new cooling system and should stand a better chance of not failing.
 
I'm actually quite happy that the build quality is crap - means I can trade my 360 in for a newer revised model every so often :D
I'll be quite happy if mine packs in soon so I can swap it out for an Elite or revised Premium :)

I'd probably get the Elite if mine died on me (but it'd better bloody not :p) but I think I'd want it for the shallow 'oooh it's newer' reason too :D

I've been waiting for weeks (neigh, months) for you to sign on to get the last 2 homecourt achievements. :(.
 
It's weird because whenever someone gets the RLOD they always say they havnt played it for a while! Im not surprised really as the thermal grease on them is extremely poor quality. Not saying the two are linked but it could be it, i didnt use my heavily overclocker PC for some time and when i turned it on it didnt work.

I swear we get at least 2, "My xbox is dead" threads each week! :p

Go for an elite dude!

Or you could just get a new Arcade/Premium - as these have the same motherboard and cooling setup as the Elites. Also, chances are if you send your current system off, you'll get it back with the new heatsink in anyway.

No need to buy an Elite unless you've got the extra cash to splash around.
 
I thought the elites were giving the same red light fault:confused:
thats why I've not upgraded mine yet although if Microsoft dont hurry up with my faulty one I'll have no choice :(

The US Elite came out well before ours, and it's hardware design hadn't really changed..

The European Elite, AFAIK has all the mods to hopefully get rid of the 3RROD..

i know mate. its hard for me to get free time to do anything 360 related. Was going to have a good bash of the rets of PGR4 and start Halo 3 this weekend too :(
 
People say 'this game killed my 360' and 'that game killed my 360'.

Nonsense. It just happened to be the game you were playing when your 360 decided to give up the ghost.
 
Well just went to G*** to check try and get an exchange as i did before (about 5 months ago ffs!) and left disappointed.

Now, last time i walked in the store, told em it was ****** and came out with a new console about 5 mins later. This time i wasn't so lucky, as this idiot decided to check that was console wasn't out of the warranty period. I stood there for 15 mins whilst he called head office.

Apparently they have a 12 month warranty on all consoles bought from them (news to me) and if you have had an exchange beforehand, this period assumes the starting date is the date of the original console. Now this totally buggers me tbh, as my original console was purchased in early 2006. I did have to get an exchange due to the 3ROD error early 2007 too! :(

Even though i quoted a few lines from the consumer rights and sale of good act, they weren't budging one bit - I had to sent the console back to M$. This wouldn't usually bother me, but it meant calling M$ and contending with some of the idiots they have on the phones (you may recall a previous thread i made about my experience with them) :( :(

Anyway, they are emaili9ng me some labels things and a number for a courier to come and collect (which he told me i don't have to pay for - too bloody right i don't have to pay!!).

Now, i also asked if i was going to get a refurbished console where the same thing was going to happen again. The guy (who sounded very Italian) told me that it depends on how bad the problem if is. This is very weird as G*** informed me that they are trying to avoid future 3ROD calls by sending out brand new console or elites (news to me).

Is there some sort of way I make sure this console is well and truly dead so i increase my chance of getting a new one? :)

The thing that makes this whole story truly saddening - COD4 is being released on 09/11/07. : (: ( :(

EDIT: At times like these i recall i quote on some PS3 vs 360 thread some time ago. A PS3 owner said "It's all fine having loads of games to play, but if you have a console that constantly breaks, they are all worthless". How right he/she was. :(

I think excessive use could be the key to your 360 breaking! How does anyone amass 45000+ achievement points!? :eek:

I'm on a tenth of that lol pretty pathetic by me really

Think he's had an xbox quite early on. Im on 17.5k and had my xbox around the same time i think!!!

I beg to differ, its the graphical demands i tell thee! Mine didnt die of 3RLOD though
