Hello dudes (and dudettes)

I just don't get how to set up a wireless router.
The problem I seem to be having is that set-up requires you to be connected to the internet but if I've got the new router plugged in then the internet isn't working because its not set up yet. GGAAHHHH !!!!

the instructions that came with are next to useless.
Does anyone have any basic advice ?

If your (and im assuming you are) on broadband then your internet connection is always connected, therefore if you setup your router (wired) to begin with you should just plug it all in, to my knowledge.

Can you access your router (192.168.0#) ? if so does it say connected?

When I connected the router (and disconnected my normal USB modem) I tried going to the 192.168 etc.. address and it said "This webpage is not viewable offline. Connect?" then if I click connect it brings up the dialogue box for the normal modem.

It wouldn't let me, the web page was not available offline.

So then I had a brainwave, create a LAN internet connection.
Now I can complete the process but I am still unable to access the internet (even though the 192.168 etc pages work fine)

I get all confused with all this PPPoE dynamic blah blah :(

I might be stupid, but I'm not that stupid :)

Well I've got it working anyway.
Who says that randomly tinkering with stuff doesn't work ?
Heheh

Its now a shame that my DS doesn't seem to want to connect to it :(

I also had exactly the same 'website is offline' problem when trying to access the web based setup, it took me about an hour to realise that my browser was connecting via a proxy which was blocking it. Turned it off and hey presto. :p

My general problem is that I hadn't actually configured a LAN setting AT ALL !!

All I had was several Dial-up options.
Once I worked that out, it got a little easier and I just went about changing random settings until it worked :)

Yeah with all wireless routers you have to use a cable to set them up ( all the ones ive ever done anyway ). Some claim to be set up to DHCP for the wireless so in theory you turn your pc's wireless on and it connects to the router automatically. This usually never works :p
