I dont get it?

You are not getting me lol. I'm just amazed a 3 year old card can play the latest games at good fps.

It cant, Its playing a latest game with a lot of the settings either turned off or set to low.

And, The reason people pay money for top cards (or 2 x older topish cards) is for ALL the eye candy (and mods in Skyrim) at a high FPS.

Skyrim is not even DX11. And I have everything on max, with texture mods and even ambient occlusion patched in with the new beta drivers and get even more fps (50+) in skyrim.

Trust me I am a huge enthusiast, I have been in this game since I was 6 (thanks dad and uncle) but I just dont see me upgrading for another 6 months at least? Unless they release a mega patch for SW TOR and Skyrim making it look vastly superior on DX11.

I have never had a card last me more than 16 months (9700pro was awesome :D ) until now.

High res, max settings, or to benefit from 120Hz screens you NEED top spec hardware / dual card setups.

1080p @ 60Hz med - high settings are not hard to achieve with older / mid range cards.

Personally i LOVE the silky smoothness of 120Hz screens with 100+FPS. Try to keep your frame rate in BF3 over 100FPS AT ALL TIMES in a hectic 64 player map.;)

Sadly my overclocked 480 (approx 580 stock speed) is NOT quite upto the job for BF3 MPx64 @ 120FPS(min). A single 580 would be pretty close, but not worth the upgrade cost. Roll on the 680!:D

I see all these super fast new graphics cards and I just dont get it? What game needs a GTX 560 or 580? I ask because I am still using a 260 (216 core) overclocked to 700/1400/1150. I can play battlefield 3 at 1920x1080 2xAA 8xAF Ultra textures with rest of the settings on high and get 40fps+.

I have to call shenanigans here. You have faster fps than my unlocked 6950 heavily overclocked.

EDIT ah i see its dx10. Guess that explains it.

I remember the hype created when amd came to market first with dx11 cards especially with dirt 2 being used to highlight the amazing dx11 effects. Here we are 2 years on with crysis2 having an afterthought dx11 patch and more recently batman arkham city owners told to play in dx9 until they can be arsed to fix dx11

Pc gamers by there very nature tend to be tech enthusiasts, benchmarking games to get the best visuals/fps even if the game they benchmark is not the kind of game they would play. This enthusiasm for mooarr powerrrr is exploited by manufacturers releasing tech which is miles ahead of what consoles can do but ultimately is impotent as no sod develops for it properly.

Saying that I love my new gtx560ti and I cant wait to get the gtx 580 when my wallet allows :)

spot on post.

As PC gamers/enthusiasts we do tend to get the "short straw". Consoles get the game and we generally get a rehash of that game nwith bolt ons.

GTA IV was ridiculous. Rockstar just done a complete lazy ass port over and said get on with it.

I understand piracy is rife but it would be nice to get games that my PC deserves AKA BF3 (Thanks Dice).

I brought games I wouldn't realy buy just because of the GFX (Dirt 2). For me make a visual treat of a game and I will buy it.

I must admit I am not so anal about upgrading as I used to be (tend to go out more now so not much cash to throw at upgrades) so I am a bit behind the times. 120hz monitors? Thats a new thing to me. Are they 3d though? I can understand needing the power if going that route.

And I dont play BF3 multi but I am sure if I did it wouldn't be as smooth.

I think I need to do some research on the new tech thats out/coming out.
