A year and a thousand posts.
Postage is a year and 250 IIRC?
No because the OP doesn't have a Q6600, he has an i7 with a vastly superior IPC compared to anything AMD has on the market so it doesn't need to hit high clocks to beat the FX.
Apparently even at the stock 2.66ghz, it's beating the 4ghz 8350 in single core applications by a noticeable margin.
I'd be surprised to see that to be honest.
The i7 does have vastly better IPC
From the Cinebench results, a 4.2GHZ Lynnfield core > 5GHZ Piledriver core, that's vastly better IPC.
But unlike Sandy etc, average clocks on i7 920's are anywhere from 4GHZ to 4.2GHZ, as opposed 4.6-4.8GHZ.
Both going 100%, the FX83's better, but no one's disputed that.
The i7 9XX's about 5 years old, coming up 6 years now, it lacks important instruction sets etc.
Let me rephrase this. They are starting at different base clocks and on average are able to achieve different overclocks. Both the 920 and the FX83 CPUs are able to achieve similar IPCs at their average overclocks. Age is not really relevant. We all admit that the i7 920 is a very capable CPU. So is the FX83. Yes AMD lag behind intel but that doesn't make their offering useless, especially given the price/performance.
Point here is, it would be a bit pointless for OP to change to an 8350 no?
I've been uming and arring between upgrading to a 4670k from my i7 950.
Performance wise I just don't think its worth the hassle or money.
