My PC is showing its age a bit now, I play games in 1024x768 and im not too bothered about beating that resolution, however i would like good framerates in newer games.

Current spec is

Dfi Infinity board
xp2500 athlon
1gb geil ram
pny 6800gt
tagan 480psu

Edit :

Ooops i posted without finishing, I have a relatively small budget, and would basically like the best bang for buck.

It would help to actually give a budget.

I would recommend the 1950 PRO as bang for the buck atm.

As for processor, I would go E6300 as you are on a tight budget. And maybe get a new motherboard as well ( Gigabyte DS3 )

Might want to up your ram to 2GB.

Budget wise i dont really wanna spend more than 250 i dont think.

dunno if its possible to gain anything on that budget.

If he's running an athlon xp and you advise him to get a new e6300 he's going to need a new motherboard anyway.

I'm finding myself in a currently similar situation. And have decided that i'm just going to get myself a new graphics card while i save up to get thewhole shibang later on next year.

I would imagine your currently getting more FPS than me too

Do you know what socket type you have on your processor? Maybe look at getting a quicker processor and then getting a better graphics card as well. If your advanced enough to be on socket 939 then you should be able to pick up an athlon xp 3000+ for around £30-40 or something fancier like an xp 3800+ for around £80.... maybe look at the dual core athlon processors?

As for the graphics card just something in the 7 series would be sufficient to get you a higher framerate without needing to spend more for higher resolutions. Maybe a 7800gt or 7900gs?

Those would be the main things i'd upgrade if i was you... if you have enough money left over then maybe some more RAM, if you don't have enough for more RAM then maybe a quicker, bigger hard drive?
