Basically i'm looking to get a new laptop/notebook in about a month or so, maybe later if circumstances change but i have started my research now. So far however i'm just getting laptop after laptop and i really don't know what would suit my needs. You see i've become quite used to just sitting on my quad core desktop and taking for granted it'll run anything. I do have a current laptop but battery is dead and the thing is big and heavy but has served me well for 2 and a bit years now. I'm waffling now so to the point:

I need a laptop with atleast 2 and a half hours battery life preferably 3 and a half to allow for some battery degradation. It needs to be small enough for me to carry about easily. I want to be able to play some video/dvds on it also. I haven't set a budget yet but i'm thinking no more than £600, the lower the better really.

So will a netbook work for me or am i going to need a small more powerful laptop? As netbooks seem to be cheap and small, i like the looks of them but will the atom processor handle video?

Thanks in advance guys.

if your budget is upto £600 then wait for the new ion netbooks, they can do full HD video and should still leave a lot of change for external dvd drive etc if you want one.

I'm interested in getting a netbook soon too but when the hell are ion equipped ones going to be available!?

We seem to have been talking about them for ages and yet no netbooks with them have appeared yet? Heck they've even started speccing out the ion 2, yet there's no sign of the original other than in mini itx form..!

So when are they going to be released for real!?

The new range of Acer Timeline Notebooks look excellent for battery life, they come in 13,14 and 15in flavours as well. They use CULV processors and have battery lives of upto 8 hours. The models I've seen are the 3810T, 4810T and 5810T, very nice specs as well.
