So, there is a starbucks drive through that I regularly go to, and pretty regularly on a night I will see groups of lads out, in their modded corsas, fiestas, audis etc parked in the Starbucks car park, or parked in the disabled bays, and sat outside by the cars. Sometimes the car park is full of these guys, and you have people literally shining their engine bay in the starbucks car park. I just don't understand what these guys actually do when stood in this car park. Can someone who is in the know please explain what these guys are doing for entertainment when stood in the car park. Because no engines are being revved, they are just stood there around parked cars.....

Pretty sure it’s just a place to meet up look around other people’s cars and chat about cars and stuff. I guess where else can you do that sort of thing?

What’s so hard to understand? They share a common interest in cars so they’re most likely talking amongst themselves, you know, socialising in real life just like friends used to.

I generally just find they stand around and smoke weed tbh. Stood around crap cars with the only mods being a drilled airbox and fart canon.

I guess they are just doing exactly what most of us here do on these motoring forums, only face to face - discussing cars and motoring.

There was a regular meet which took place fairly near me, every Thursday I think, in the car park of a small retail outlet. Although there were a few nobs in hatchbacks, the majority were actually quite interesting cars. American muscle mainly, some modded into hot rods. Not really my thing, but definitely no harm in it.

Sign o' the times when someone on a specialist interest forum questions why people who have a specialist interest would meet in person.

TBH car meets are a lot Ike forums too, you get the cess pit end of the world and the more sensible end of the spectrum.

I don’t understand why people who don’t understand why some people do certain things, come onto a forum to ask such a stupidly inane question.

Can someone explain why folk meet in these places called pubs and kind of stand around talking to each other. I mean I just don't get it, what are they doing for entertainment?

Normal human interaction and sharing a common interest. Pretty standard stuff and from what you've described they are being pretty respectful and well behaved, no joining round the car parks and doing donuts.

Would be the same as them asking why do we come and post and comment on this forum. Different strokes.

I used to be into cars and go to car meets. Ended up making very good friends from them.

i would imagine they are having conversation.

conversation
/kɒnvəˈseɪʃ(ə)
n/noun
  1. a talk, especially an informal one, between two or more people, in which news and ideas are exchanged.

Went and got petrol last night and the morrisons car park was rife with kids in modified cars, mostly E36 318s, though there was a cool Clio 197 that was clearly turbo'd with a obnoxious BOV.
