I dreamed a new game

Had a dream the other night where I was on an epic quest. But fortunately for me I had a device which could instantly transport me back several hundred years in time, or into the future.

These time frames were exact. So I could exist in three different specific points in time through the quest.

Perhaps I'd be seen as a wizard if I vanished into thin air in the middle ages, or a magician if I did it in the present. Maybe a vanishing dude might not look so odd in a few hundred years time.

In my dream I had walked into a large town in the present. I was on the main street at night. I traveled back through my magic time portal and the town had turned into a dirt track with just a few huts.

I never got to see the future - my phone rang and woke me up.

Anyway, the idea seemed interesting to me. I'm sure if I could be bothered to think about it, there would be several more neat ideas to come from this premise.

And I must stop eating cheese before I go to bed.

Douglas Adams wrote something like that in a Doctor Who story, City of Death... Maybe also a Dirk Gently story, can't remember. And yes, it would make a rather good rpg. What is done in the past affects the future. etc.

WTF You dreamed of a game where your quest was to walk to town?? Pretty boring game if you ask me, I do that on a daily basis.

Actually, the part of my dream I remember most was the olde town part. Toothless hags carrying baskets of rocks etc. The modern town part was just for time traveling context I'm sure.

Hardly important that it's been done before. As if it'd get picked up :) And imagine how many letters software houses get about game ideas, "Oy, I is got a wkd idea for a mad game innit!!"

Played a game on the PS2 ages ago that was pretty much exactly what you described. Can't remember what it was called. Shadow something or other I think. It was a german game but dubbed in english.

I once had a crazy dream a while back, kind of based on HL1 (had the gun were you hold down mouse button to charge up the laser beam). Lots and lots of foot soldiers stuck in a canyon which was very high and everyone was preparing for an incoming invasion before spawn. Peeps were taking up positions on the valley floor and walkways on the canyon walls, medics etc and people grabbing munitions from ammo dumps.

Then the round started and all I could hear in the distance was big ominous clonking noises. Out of the fog several huge 'robotic walkers' appeared about 400ft tall flanked by large numbers of foot soldiers. Once in range all hell broke loose and the defenders were pushed back into caves inside the canyon walls. It was probably one of the most intense moments of gaming in my life (but it was all in my head). I also have a problem with eating cheese before bed time  ;)
