I've just installed the latest X3 game and it had me really confused at first. Starting to understand it and will eventually lose many hours to it!
Another vote for I-War 2 ... awesome game with more realistic inertia 'space flight' physics and it's one BIG universe, not broken up into sectors therefor gives the feeling of big open space.
It's available on GOG but I have the original game on disks and it plays fine on Win7 64, it also saw my 270x card and offered 1920*1080 straight away, no tweaks needed for super graphics ... not bad for a 13 year old game
If anyone needs it, my original copy came with a keyboard button function fold-out card, i'll happily scan it for you.
