mmmkay, i've held this back for a week now i feel it's time to have a moan about the infamous time trial on TDU - Tantalus. I have completed 119/120 challenges and unlocked 86% of the game - tantalus is the only race that remains. I know i wont be able to leave the game alone till i have nailed it :(

I can't believe how hard this compared to EVERYTHING else in the game. It's such a big jump. I heard the maserati challenge was hard but i got that in 2"12' after finally discovering the MC12 (i was using the 3500 GT lal).

Anyway, back to my messiah, tantalus. I really am at a loss how to tackle this one. If i drive cautiously and preserve my points i can finish the race with 150 - but my overall time is around the 7"50' mark. If i drive normally i can finish the race WELL within the timelimit (7"10' ish) but get loads of penalty time and get a bronze :(

Am i using the wrong car? I really don't know. What did everyone else use. The enzo, gallardo SE, F1 GTR (all Stage 3 tuned) have all drawn blanks for me. After almost a week of trying on and off every night i'm getting kinda frustrated. The only other route i can see is to use a good slower, B class car. gah, i don't know - i mist be missing something.

You'll beat it! Every video game is beatable.
 
I must admit Tantalus took me a few goes, about 15 or so. I failed with the Saleen, Koenigsegg and a Lambo, all stage 3 tuned. I attempted it once with a stage 3 Enzo and did it first time. Don't remember my time but I got a gold and that's all that mattered.

Edit: Looking at your gamer score, I'm surprised you haven't got all 46 achievements by now. You really must be rubbish. :p

Did 4 or 5 attempts at this, first time in Enzo with upgrade to level 3 and I did it first time. I admit, it IS hard, but just remembering the corners and not hitting a thing helped a bit. Also take a chance in the straights. Whether it's a programming glitch or not, but I have noticed that if you tear down a road on the opposite side, you'll get more cars. Do the same in same-way traffic and they don't appear as often. Maybe a COMPLETE coincidence, but that's how I managed it.
 
I don't remember how many points I had left, i was so relieved when I'd done it I didn't look. But I think the only points I did lose was for going off the road, I was careful not to hit anything because that loses you big points.
 
EDIT: hum this is definately NOT unbeatable. Just had 2 goes at it and got 7.36 overall in an enzo. Lost nearly 40 po0ints on the last bit of empty road as i forgot to press [back] when i went off road. I may do this one yet. :rolleyes:
 
This took me a few goes, I did post about it at the time as it's a rather frustrating course.

Also stage 3 Enzo for me.

I think I must have got lucky with this one? First attempt with an Enzo, I just took it easy and concentrated more on not hitting anything than sheer speed.
 
OMFG! Just tried it 3 times and was miles off - at least 20 seconds after penalties. :(

I got annoyed too. Started tantalus again a decided to ignore all the points preservation crud and just went for it. I totally nailed the enzo all over that course (after the tunnel bit near the end i used my brake once) and surprising ended up with 172 points and finished it in:


7 mins 24 secs. (that's the 6226 th fastest ever :) )

On a side note i must say cheers to whiteroser aka ~J~ for the tip on the straights, as nailing it into head on traffic does work and must have saved me a lot of time. For some reason this stops oncoming cars from spawning as much. I even noticed it in the snaking bits of roads near the start of the course, just try it for yourself. You may be onto some sort of bug there my burnout revenge owning friend :)

okay, can i just say the reward for completing all challenges and times trials totally sucks. That VW W12 roadster i crap. It sounds amazing but kinda reminds me of the MC12 as its rear is all over the show.

I'm joining the whinging here. I can't believe what a jump this is from everything else.

I've managed 7.27 twice but have had 30 sec penalities.

The traffic is just too random, I finally completed the first part penalty free. Bombing down towards the right turn for the stretch into oncoming traffic and wham two big trucks at the junction after the turn. No way in earth I could avoid them.

Now I'm trying to be more cautious my best times are 7.37 + 5 secs penalty.

Unbeliveable; spoilt a great game imo.
 
Finally got 7.20 but with a 27 second penalty! All I did was brush a few cars. They may as well ditch the meter and just have it so if you hit anything you statt again...

4 hours in, lets keep going.
