My X-fi Xtreme music is great when it works but it has it's problems. One of them would be the microphone ceasing to work randomly and other times not working from boot up. This is with XP btw

I'm happy to say I've solved the problem and it was very simple.

  • Remove mic
  • Remove headphone jack
  • Plug in headphone jack
  • Plug in mic

And that's it! So simple but was a problem for so long. I still have several other problems but just wanted to share a solution rather than a problem for once.

Is that after powering off as well, or just that time? Or do you mean, it goes silent, and you have to unplug then plug in again? Seems like you'll get worn out connectors in no-time if that's the case?

mic stops working mid game, or when starting one, or as soon as booting up XP. The unplugging can be done without powering off.

Happens every 3rd day or so. How easy is it to wear out these connectors? I ask because I also swich from headphones to speakers so switch connectors pretty often
