Hi all

When trying to boot Edgy Eft beta i get this error:
Buffer I/O error on device hdc logical block 16

When i try and boot Sabayon linux i get:
COuld not fnd CD to boot - something else needed
AND
Determining root devices - the root block device is unspecified or not detected

Are these errors the same thing and/or what do they mean, and can i fix it? (or is it a hardware problem)

Oddly enough Knoppix Live CD version 4.00 boots fine (though version 5.0 doesn't) - very odd

Many thanks

Well "Buffer I/O error on device hdc logical block 16" means it can't read/write block 16 on whatever drive hdc is. I would do a scandisk/fsck on that make sure all the inodes are ok.

The second error looks like you need to specific the partition to be used as the root device. Usually done via the bootloader or as a kernel switch.

Hmmm hdc seems to be my DVDROM drive? Only i tried booting from my DVR drive and it worked fine. Odd
