oh god where do i start? i changed my mobo and psu about a year ago and everything was in place to run smoothly instead ive had a night mare for a year.i put my nice new mobo in and my old card in and a new psu and reinstalled windows, that all went well.then when i put the video card drivers in the screen suddenly started to show weird patterns on the desktop so i uninstalled the drivers and it worked ok.by patterns i mean odd swirls and shapes on the screen itself in the background of windows almost faded, not colourful squares or anything.then about 2 months after that it all went wrong again and the bsod kept coming up.so i uninstalled the ccc and just put the driver in and all was fine.then weeks later the screen started to revert to 60 htz on startup and 8 bit colours on desktop.i installed the drivers about 10 times before it took hold again and worked.about a few days after that i heard a noise from the case and it seemed to be coming from the video card,i took the card out and reseated it and it wouldnt boot the pc.i finally got it to boot by taking it out again and it loaded up on desktop with coloured squares and 2 minutes later 2 red lights came on the card and it died.(radeon 2900 pro).so very fed up i went and got a radeon 3870 4 weeks ago and put my new card into the machine.it ran amazing for 2 weeks and on bf2 it suddenly started to bsod me on ati2vag.dll.it was not to bad until the past week corruption is again showing in the desktop with odd patterns and it keeps locking up every 3 minutes even on the web pages with bsod ativag2.i reverted back to my onboard video chip and its perfect.im really getting fed up here what is doing this to my pc? surely cant be 2 faulty cards.i give up so if anyone can help please before i kill myself.oh and i know about pcs as well and am no noob.

Boot to safe mode, uninstall driver, set to standard vga, reboot.
Remove all AMD/ATI folders completely from all drives. Reboot.
Come offline.
Disable AV software.
Reinstall latest AMD drivers for your card.
Reboot.
Reenable AV

+1 for better PSU which may solve some of your problems but I think it is a software issue currently. hardware would show as more immediate failures.

i will try this and get back to the forum soon.ty can i also say wen i was uninstalling the ati drivers on this card and rebooting windows was automatically putting the drivers back in.this cant be right can it?its almost like it isnt uninstalling

This is why you should set to standard VGA before you reboot. The resolution will look horrible when it restarts, and you will need to scroll lots to move around the screen. Uninstal using the control panel and manually get rid of all graphic driver folders as well. Stop any programs or utilities you may have which maintain or update to the latest drivers automatically.
