i have an old Toshiba Laptop
it is running 32bit win7 ultimate,
2gb ram, intel{R} core T7200 @2GHz

i was thinking of upgrading the hard drives init... i.e. the 2x250gb hard drives to ssd {when they come down in price}.

but i`m not sure if it would be worth the bother...... i.e. just get a new laptop...

i only use the laptop for the internet and downloading and surfing.

i use my main computer in the sig for everything else.

You'll be best off upgrading the ram to 4GB for W7. The rest is fine as it is really, unless you want to SSD it, depends on how fast you want it to be and what you want it to do.

Upgrade the OS then.

upgrade the os.... seems a tad over much.... i was just wondering if maybe adding a ssd would do anything to it.... i know adding more ram would make it go faster...

i had already had vista on it {came with the laptop} so i just put win 7 U on the other laptop hard drive...

i wasn`t sure if it was worth upgrading the laptop or just getting a newer one.

my laptop i have costed £1300 about 3 years ago....

Depends how much money you are looking to spend really mate. With a SSD HDD you would definately get a nice boost in performance, Win 7 loads up much quicker.

If I was gonna go for one thing, get the SSD. Will cost you around £110 for a 64GB which you can use for Win 7 installation, or if you feel you need more I think around £150 for a 80GB intel SSD. Keep one of your 250GB drives for storage, or sell them both and buy a 500GB hdd instead. If you can spend a bit more upgrade the ram to 4GB, and get yourself Win 7 64. :)

hmm i`ll have to save up.... i think the ssd and an upgrade will do the laptop some good.. i`ll save up now... hopefully i can get a 120gb ssd cheaper between now and xmas.... i know they will soon drop in price due to the newer ultra faster ssd out.

thanks for the help :D

Leave it as it is, add an SSD for a boot drive and a bigger second hdd for storage. Looking at your main PC you can have more than enough fun with that...
:D

full benefits if he/she also upgrades to 64 bit system, overwise 4gb is pointless.

thanks for the info... seems like a new ssd is on the cards... will wait near the end of the year after xmas to see if i can get one. failing that i can just use the ssd in the main computer and get another fat ssd for the boot drive..

But be careful. The SSD bug might bite hard, and you'll feel the need to get one for the laptop pretty soon.

If it's a boot drive (for desktop), a Vertex 2E 60GB / Patriot Inferno for under £100 is pretty much ideal. Same controller, but I'd go with OCZ for support.

For a laptop, it's debatable. 60 GB maybe a bit small, it depends what you want to do with it. OK in a netbook, maybe not in a laptop that you want to use regularly.
