Was staying at my uncles and we'd been putting some Vinyl on the ER5, we'd done the little side fairing bits and were just about to finish the tank when we must've moved it too much and causing a tube to come off/split and some petrol on the floor. I stopped it by pinching on it and a second later the room lit up.

Here's a little write up - http://news.stv.tv/tayside/313095-man-taken-to-hospital-after-blaze-at-7-denhead-cottages-near-st-andrews/

I wasn't the one that suffered the burns, they weren't all that bad and everyone was okay. The cat being okay was a bonus. She survived in there for 5 hours, somehow!

Three bikes died

What was up with outdoors? Kitchens ain't the best place to fix bikes

Remind me not to invite you to mine for any repairs haha, but at least your all still alive

Sounds like a very lucky escape! I guess one day you'll be able to look back and laugh at it.

We only had it indoors to keep warm really but yeah, doubt I'll ever keep a bike in the house in the future :P

Bit warmer than you wanted no doubt :D

All joking aside glad you're all ok (including the cat).

Glad every one got out ok, including the kitteh, going to be interesting seeing what the house insurance company say when the home owner presents them with the claim.

With remarks like that, I'm guessing you're someone's wife?
Kitchens are the *perfect* place to fix bikes, living rooms are the perfect place to store bikes over winter and there is no better place to clean parts than in the kitchen sink - It's biker law!! :D

One man was taken to hospital with burns, right?
Sorry, the article didn't make it obvious enough when they said it four times...!!

Good to hear everyone made it out, chap.
Bikes can be fixed or replaced. People can't!!

This will only make it sound more stupid - I can only think that the source of ignition was the open fire but that was essentially out, no more wood burning on it, just a bed of embers and was in another room.

Reminds me of the time I was fettling with my Bros, a bit of the paint had bobbled on the bottom of the tank, so I gently picked it, lo and behold petrol started ****ing out of the corroded hole underneath. No flames thankfully.

2.30am, yep, we'd been working on it all day and wanted to get it finished - That and we're all night people - it's normal for us.

I went back there today to have a look around - in the back room I found my old YBR 125, still standing, completely fine but just a bit dirty.

There was a fire inspection guy there having a little look around and he said that he suspected that it was the fridge that had ignited it.
