Grrrrrrrrr I own a Golf GTI 2.0 and the previous owner had it serviced by a bunch of gorilla's. After getting it I did an oil, air filter and plug change (A PITA in itself). I would have done the oil filter at the same time but after snapping a rubber strap and bending a metal one attempting to get it undone I spat my dummy and left it.
The other day it had dropped oil and after investigation it appears that the oil filter has also spat its dummy along with the oil. So attempt 2 to get the oil filter off and after getting some filter grips still cant shift it, partly because between the filter and the radiator there is about 2 inches of room (Who designed this engine?!) so after doing the trusty bodge of screwdriver through the filter and putting my weight behind it still no movement apart from a form of can-opening action so it looks like it will be bumper and radiator off to give enough room at the front of the car to get a decent leverage on it!
Why put an oil filter on so tight?! I mean they should be hand tight nothing more! Unfortunately I dont know the garage that serviced it before I got it otherwise I would have dropped the car off and told them to get it off. The sump plug had been done with a strong arm as that required a spanner extension to the spanner to get it to budge! Guess this will teach me for getting a car from Carcraft!
