Apart from itunes and winamp, is there any basic free software that will allow me to add/remove/organise music on an ipod?

Of course. I own an iriver H140 and sony NWZ-S639 mp3 player and i'm used to organising music in folders and filename of my choosing by simply dragging and dropping without the need for reliance on tags (i do realise that you need tags for the ipod though).

I like software to be intuitive which to me itunes is far from. Maybe if i perseve with it i could get it to do the basics that i want without me inadvertently doing something stupid like deleting the whole library!! Also i don't want rubbish like Bonjour installed on my PC. To top that it's damn ugly IMO!!

These may or may not be reasons enough to validate hate for itunes in everyone's book but are more than enough for me!! :D

I've just looked into Anapod explorer and that looks more like the software i would prefer to use.

Yamipod - I use this now. No software installed on any PC. With this I can link my iPod to Windows and Linux systems. It claims to work with Macs, but I don't have access to a Mac to try. Interface is very simple and uncluttered.

Thanks :) I'll look into Yamipod. Fantastic: that would solved another major dislike for itunes in that it needs to be installed on each pc i connect the ipod to.

I used to use Anapod, but again I had trouble running it on my system. Their support was lacking, and I eventually had to use a hacked version, because my fully paid up one wouldn't work.

I know you said apart from ***** and Winamp!.. but have you tried the mlipod.dll plugin for winamp!.. I find it much better than the built in support :)

I've tried Songbird, but as said above had trouble with Vista64 HP. Tried MonkeyAudio and couldn't get on with it, it seemd such a mess!!.. and don't get me started on iTunes!!... thats the reason why I had to re-install/restore my HP Laptop!!.. Never again!!.. Never installing iTunes EVER again!!..

Thanks, i wasn't aware of this plugin. I remember with Winamp, it was very unstable, sometimes connecting, sometimes losing my library so i ditched it. I'll give that a go :)
