Before people comment - i game on a 19" mointor so i dont need more than 512mb.

The card sucks - i have the most up to date drivers, my cpu is clocked at 3.2 MHz, ive got 4gig of ram and yet, even in wow this card sucks balls. Dont get me started on GTA4 - which i know everyone has problems with but after like three patches they should have fixed it by now. Hell i cant get better than 18FPS average on teh benchmark and thats on the suggested settings which are notiroulsy lower than what your system can usually handle.

Some years back i swore i would never go ATI becasue of stability issues and driver issues. My prediction has been confirmed. Man, as soon as i have enough mazoola im going back to Nvidia and being done with it.

This thing is crap. Im annoyed and there is literally nothing i can do about it. Since day one - and even with fresh XP installs, this card can manage no better than about 13k in 3dMark 06. Sums it up. GRRRRRRR.

GTA4 is a poor benchmark and I get sod all in 3d mark 2006 as well (see my sig for rig).

3d mark 2006 gets most points from clocking cpu, it is an outdated program and pretty much useless now. Try 3d mark with your cpu at stock and the difference will be quite large.

Um, ok, sorry you haven't had a good experience with your card, not sure whats caused your issues, as something sounds a little off from my experience, WoW was absolutely fine. THAT said, your 3dMark06 issue is caused by your CPU, so that sums up very little ;)

I hope you enjoy whatever NV card you end up with, it does sound a little like you were expecting/wanting to dislike the card though, either way a GTX260 will offer similar performance <some games faster, some slower> so you might be able to get someone to swap :)

18fps with GTA4 benchmark? something is wrong there. With a 19" monitor, even with max settings I would have guessed at least about 35fps, probably more

first thing 9-6 drivers sucks. my crossfire hated them and it wouldn't let me overclock -.-

I used to have a sapphire HD4870 512 like you i didn't have any problems with it and I m on a big 24inch ( big for me), GTA4 ran nice for me for some reason, but than again I have a qaud core.

so you have a problem in two benchmarks, haven't complained about a game, so ATi sucks right? Well done, not only will you get crappy results without a quad core in GTA4, you also have a "fairly" old dual core and picked one of about 4 benchmarks that will only run well on a quad core.

Hows about you play, you know, a game, and if you have a problem WITH A GAME, maybe people will help you get better performance out of it.

GTA4 still runs poorly with a quad core tbh, and runs poorly Nvidia or ATi and isn't fantastically smooth(especially over bridges and things with lighting effects, no matter what computer you have).

User error or PICNIC tbh.

Could be PBKAC. Affects a lot of workstations.

I dont have any problems gaming with my 4870 512 @ 1900*1200 in most games. As others have said, nothing you throw at the poorly coded GTA4 will run it ok. I have never and will never play WOW or have it anywhere near any computer of mine. I can say my machine @ 3.03 ghz quad core handles COD4 and COD W@W very well indeed at full res. The only games I have problems with are Crysis and GTA4.

GTA4 on PC doesn't run as well as it should but 18fps with a 4870 and a 19" monitor means something is wrong. Start with posting your GPU-Z results. I ran it with a 4850 on a 1680x1050 monitor with auto settings and got 54fps. On the 260 with higher auto settings on a 1920x1200 screen i get 50fps with a lower max fps but a higher min fps.

I'm tempted to get it on the PS3 just to compare now that it auctions for about £10

Gta 4 can and does run well on a quad and a gtx 260 and 4gb ram, i have these with the cpu @3ghz and it flies. Im really enjoying gta4 with good smooth fps.

Also 512mb with gta4 isnt going to be great, you need least 896 - 1gb gfx mem even if u do play in 1280x res or similar.

I had a good time with GTA4 tbh but I was limited to meduim as it won't let me go any higher due to being on 512 oh well still ran nice for me

okay I ll admit I have a decent quad core and OC'ed so it does help lol

Had a similar thing with my 4870 (1GB), i hated it tbh, GTA4 ran like crap on it, constantly dropping to single digits (yes i have a quad), games like Crysis didnt really improve as much as i thought, and other games just ran about as nicely as the card im using now (see sig). ATI's drivers just aint upto scratch as Nvidias imo.

Dont blame Ati, Blame Cockstar!

I ran GTA IV with a Pc that scores 23,000 in 3dmark 06 (280 Gtx SLi)

and the game stuttered in many areas
