Hi guys,

So I have an H10 pure 5gb mp3 player, have had for about 18 months. I bought it because reviews all said it was bettter than the latest ipod revision (at the time) - however I must say I wish I hadn't bought it :(

Today it was the final straw. Every time in the past that I've tried to add new music (except for when I first got it), it is the most stressful thing ever. Windows XP doesn't recognise it, then it crashes, then windows does recognise it (as a mass storage device), but then while transfering songs it stops recognising it.

It hasbn't worked with WMP10 since I first got it, and today it appears ot have gone completely wrong.

Does anyone else have this many problems with the h10? Or is it just me?

I'm going to contact iriver tomorrow about replacing it, but its 18 months old so I bet they'll just laugh at me. Its a shame stuff is only designed to last a year, can't really afford a new mp3 player every year!

what firmware do you have on it? you can get the latest firmware from iriver's site.
There's also emergency mode (take battery out, insert battery, hold 'O' and switch the player on) doing this will force the player to use UMS, meaning it will be drag and drop while in emergency mode - no crappy software to contend with when loading the player.

have you tried resetting the player to defaults?

there are a few things you can try before replacing the player - resetting it, newest official firmware, getting rockbox on there ect:)

whe ni first got my player, it had a pretty old firmware on it and while i didnt have the usb problems you did, it was crashing, loosing drive on one of the channel (one earphone going dead), eq's not working properly ect. iriver were pretty terrible with their firmware updates.

Hi James, cheers for the suggestions - I seem to remember you being the h10 guru!

So I tried it on a different PC, and it was recognised, started to sync files accross and then bam, it crashed again.

Instead I did the old trick of holding down the 'o' button, and added the tracks. Good oh.

But wait! What's this I asked myself? WHERE HAVE ALL MY SONGS GONE?!

All songs have disappeared from the main menu, but they're all in the Browser section!

Gonna have a go with this bit of software i found which sorts out the database for you later, but I hate that I have to rely on 3rd party stuff to make it work.

yeah thats a problem when you add songs like that. you can reset the database in the settings menu but it doesnt always work. i never used the music menu anyway, i always used the browser so that never bothered me lol.
