Hi, I have 2 computers networked through a router, Both computers can access the internet through the router, Computer 2 can ping computer 1 but computer 1 gets timed out when pinging computer 2.

When using my network places computer 2 shows no networked pc's including itself and when using it on computer 1 it only shows itself.

please help it should be pretty straight forward both computers are obtaining ip address automatically from the router.

Any idea's?

Yep both on the same workgroup, I have tried changing the workgroup with no luck, all software firewalls are turned off.

What anti virus are you using? In my experience norton antivirus is very difficult to network and causes similar problems to those you mentioned.

O.k. now i have computer 1 seeing both computers in my network places but when i try accessing computer 2 it says something along the lines of computer2 is not accessible, You may not have permision to use this network resource, Then is says something like The network path was not found, this is really stressing me out now, I have also tried setting up static ip address's, computer 2 is still not accessing anything and can't even access the workgroup saying the list of server for this workgroup is not currently available.

Please someone Help me.

have you actually shared something, I don't think xp turns on file and print sharing until you say that you " understand the risks of sharing files" etc etc

Ive had this problem before - whatever I tried my laptop WOULDNT see my computer whereas all of the other machines on the network would. I finally had ot reinstall windows xp on the laptop and it worked perfectly after that.

I have shared drives and folders on both units, 1 of the units has just had a clean install.

Is there anyway to set up permissions on windows xp pc's for other pc's?

Thanks
