Well not night shift it's self. But the change in sleeping pattern. I did 6nights last week ending on friday morning. Friday night went to bed at 3am but couldn't get to sleep till almost 6am despite being very drunk.
last night I went to bed at 11 but as I was so tired I sleept though till 1pm and tonight I went to bed just gone midnight and am now feeling more awake than ever...

another useless post brought to you by Acid..

so for those working shifts how do you cope wit the change overs.

Try being unemployed. It's even worse! You'd think having all the free time you want would be a good thing, but it really isn't! Boredom quickly sets in and sleep patterns go out of the window.

I'm going to see about an apprenticeship tomorrow and I'm so awake I know I'm gonna be crap in the morning when I get up :( .

yep enemployment sucks, was enemployed for about 2months after uni, as you have no money you can't do anything. Also everyone else you now is at work.

Good luck for tommorow, can't you get some warehouse work as a gap stop even if it's only a few days a week?

Well I was supposed to be going on a lifeguard course at the end of last month but the manager at the swimming pool (a friend of a friend) ended up waiting too long to put me on it and it got full up. So now I have to wait until the end of this month for the course. £6.75/hour for the lifeguard job which isn't half bad really! But can't just rely on that so this apprenticeship thing will be investigated (and also gives better prospects for the future, where as the lifeguard job is pretty dead-end).

I work 2pm to 10pm one week then 6am to 2pm the next and i've been doing it for over a year though i doubt i will ever get used to it.

Heh, wife works all sorts of odd hours (3AM - 12PM, 5AM - 2PM, 6AM - 3PM and 10AM - 7PM on weekends), and I work 4PM - 1AM M-T and 1PM to 7PM Fri.

So trying to get time to actually see each other when we're awake is nigh-on impossible.

They didn't tell us it would be like this at the wedding.......

Ive worked shifts for the past 14yrs, doing days, noons and nights and now i do 4 x 12hr shifts.

What i found best was when i was working 7 nights was when i finished at 6am i would wake up no later than 3pm, then on the last night shift i worked, i would sleep from 6am - midday and get myself up even though i was still tired.

My body clock then adjusted itself, getting up at midday made me feel like going to sleep around 11pm that night, and then i adjusted back to normal sleeping patterns for my days off.

Still do that now working 2 12hr days, then 2 12hr nights, on my last night shift i get into bed at 8am and i make sure im up about 1pm.

Back in my old days (LOL)

i used to do 12 hour Shifts 3 days , 3 nights , 3 Off

All shifts started at 7 and finished at 7

And i had to do xmas day :P

glad those days are gone
