Bloody weather! Was planning on starting up the Starlet GT yesterday, but the weather put paid to any plans of that. It's not been run for ~6 years, so I was well looking forward to cranking it over. Oh well, next weekend I guess :(

Anyone else in similar predicaments, in that they have things they really want to do to their cars, but have no shelter to do it under?

you gonna just stick the key in and start it up?

i do have a garage but its full of **** and its not that big.

will be building a huge double plus a bit for a workshop garage in the next few months. no worries after that

I have a rented single garage that I use for my bike but I'd really like a proper workshop garage. Any work I do on my car I have to do outside.

Nah, already done all the precautions (little bit of oil down onto the pistons, etc) and we'll be doing it off the starter motor without any spark or plugs in to get the oil around a bit and around the turbo. Fresh oil and petrol is in it ready. Engine was turning nicely when we had it out anyway, so much so that when tightening the clutch onto the flywheel, it was turning the engine :D So we know it's not seized or anything.

All we have in the garden is a man shed, but Dad is planning on building a garage someday. Probably never :p

sounds excellent, priming it on the starter will do the turbo all sorts of favours

ill place a small bet that it starts first time

I have a garage, that doesn't fit a car, pointless! It's like it's tempting you in to using it until you realise you could drive in, but you wouldn't be able to get out of the car.

The house I used to live in before my parents split up had a double garage, that would be oh so useful now!

A gazebo might be a worthy investment OP, if you do a lot of home mechanics.

Inserting some oil into the shaft bearing and turning the car over without the engine firing is exactly what you should do when installing a new turbo.

So... spinning the engine over to get fresh oil flowing through the turbo isn't a bad idea at all imho.

hence why i said it would to the turbo a favour...

and i didnt type out a long post of advice in case he already knew it, which would have wasted his time and mine, hence i asked first (and ive got a nasty headache today, i didnt fancy a lot of typing)

I've got a garage but its still full of total random rubbish since we moved in 3+ years ago :( Its only a single too so not really big enough but id still rather squeeze myself into a single garage than do jobs out in the open.

We're sorting the garage out at the moment as we want to move house in the next year so i'll probably just get it clear enough to actually use it then we'll move house... But one of the big wants for our next house is a double garage/space to build a decent garage.

When I have my own house I'm not having a junk room at all, it annoys me so much that I had the garage as a lovely tool room and then my mother dumped a washing machine, a freezer, dining table, chairs and a broken moped in there.

We didn't plan to have a junk room, we moved from a bigger rented place and bought our current house so we just had too much stuff :(

No matter how hard you try its really really hard to keep somewhere like a garage clear of junk as its just too easy to put stuff in there and 'deal with it later'

I drive a 95 MR2 turbo that i love playing with/tweaking.

just did a headunit install and tweaked the BOV spring balance...was i absolutely %%%%%% %%% that it basically rained all weekend? Majorly so.

If i had a garage, especially a double one like i had in a previous garage id be tweaking and sorting stuff all the time. As it is im lucky if i can spend an hour or so at the weekend on it. Being parked on a backroad is kind of a blessing as im not on a main road, but at the same time kids/vandals on the park are always a concern.

still managed to get the HU and blitz in and relcated anyway;

I hate not having a garage or driveway! I park just off the road in 1/5 residential spaces but they are always full as that's for 6 flats and 4 houses!

I pretty much have to go to my grans to use her driveway which doesn't go down too great.
