.. I need a new one..

I've had 2 Linksys cable routers both the WRT54 GS and GL and both failed constantly requiring rebooting. So I'll stay away from Linksys thanks,.

Anyone make any recommendations?

install Tomato firmware on the GL, and do a 'clear nv ram' on it after, will be an awesome machine after :)

find out what version the GS is, if it's V1,V2,V3,V4, then it can take Tomato too :)

trust me on this

do this with the GL

when power is on, hold reset button for 60 seconds
let go, and unplug
hold reset button for 60 seconds
leg go, turn on and plug in ethernet.

go to 192.168.1.1

install Tomato (already downloaded an extracted to that pc)
go into router options, choose clear nv ram

since installing Tomato, mine's been online for a year (turned it off for 1 week because I went on holiday)

currently maxing out my NTL 20mb with steam downloads

Sounds great - I'll definitely follow your advice when it arrives..

Posty arrives with Router

That was quick.. Used the free first class postage option with the shop.. Nice one OCUK :)

Stupid question bledd. what does the hold for 60 seconds etc do?

if you need port forwarding, use the 'static dhcp' section of the router, you can do it by MAC address then instead of manually setting it on the pc

the router will ALWAYS assign that ip to that mac address, then you use the port forwarding section to assign the port to that ip
