I hate the VXR forums sometimes

Whats amusing is that a VXR will rinse a GT4 (I know a 205 for sure, and fairly certain about the 185) in anything but torrential conditions.

You keep dreaming of your overweight clapper.

But your car is more expensive than his so doesn't count, right?

Whether it's right or not, Corsa VXR's will always be associated with extreme Chavdom any many people will continue to think it's just an Opel Corsa with a bit of "innit" and some "alco-pop" thrown in. Like I say, whether right or wrong.

Doesn't the corsa hold the lap record round the nordschleife for supermini or something?

edit: yes it does

Yes, the Corsa VXR is the fastest around the Nurburgring for cars painted Blue, with a wheelbase of a certain size, running a certain tyre profile with a certain combination of interior trim peices.

GO GO KUDOS.

Back in the real world nobody really cares because mini hot hatches are just not that popular. Proper hot hatches are better.

A brand new VXR is £15k or so right?
For £15k you can have ...
An Evo 8 (2004) FQ340 - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1318329.htm
A Spec R S15 (2002) - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1314035.htm
A 350z (2005) - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1282896.htm
An R34 GTT
or an R33 GTR
An S2000 (2006) - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1329250.htm
An e46 M3 (2004) - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1330930.htm
A Ford Mustang V8 (2007) - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1331509.htm
Some form of STI
An FD3S RX7

I've run out of will to name cars that can be had for the same money that are infinitely better.

EDIT: Each one of those will rinse the Corsa and be many times more fun

Lets just pick any random car for sub 15k :/ Somebody looking to buy a 'Hot' supermini is hardly going to look at a V8 mustang are they or an M3? Pointless.

Someone looking to buy a "hot" car will pick a good hot car ... and given the price bracket the Corsa is no-where near being a good car compared to used metal.
It only makes sense for new metal (at best).

Not really ...

Care to explain why? If I was looking at spending £15k on a "hot" car I would be taking afew more factors into account than just what I could buy for £15k. I would look quite a fool if I blew £15,000 on an Evo and then couldnt insure it, stick petrol in it, service it etc etc. All those things will be less on somthing like a Corsa VXR. If it really was that simple why isnt everyone driving Evos, Skylines & M3's instead of Corsa VXR's and Clio sports?

I'll explain why I spent my money on a Corsa VXR rather than an Evo, M3, TVR, 996 or any of the countless other cars I could have had for the same money.

1. Warranty - Its highly unlikely that I'll incur any repair costs inside the three year warranty.

2. Reliability - A modern car is nearly always going to be more reliable

3. Running costs - Any of the "good" second hand cars you mention will attract at least three times the running costs, almost guaranteed. I average around 35MPG.

4. Servicing - 4 pretty much standard plugs, 5 litres of gm oil, cheap paper element filter, all easily accessible, and even a dealer service can be had for around £120.

5. The feel of a new car - no matter how well a car has been maintained, by the time cars get to around six years old, they just don't feel the same any more.

6. £550/yr to insure, fully comp - the same as my old Corrado VR6 and ACS 325 cost me TPFT - to put that in perspective, I cannot insure an Impreza, Evo, M3 or 996 for under £1300.

And about a million other reasons that I cannot list right now.

Even past the warranty, an engine rebuild is in the region of around £1200, turbo and manifold is £500, wheel bearings, ~£30, pads are no more expensive than any bog standard pad, discs aren't horrendous either - everything is cheap.

You'd have to be a sub89er to be so blind that you cannot see past the initial purchase price.

I know ive had arguments before over his views on superior BMW switchgear (and that incidentally i hate the dashboard switch gear on e39 and e46 bmws)

But even i can admit that how new a car feels after 6 years depends on the car and how well built it was. Sitting in fox's BMW, and other BM's of the era, simply doesnt feel like you're fitting in a car thats as old as it is

Sitting in an old vectra b or micra however ... completely different. By god you dont half notice it.
