I hate to say it..

But my THIRD xbox 360 has just given me the three red rings!

Well within warranty, but....HASSLE.

One of the reasons I sold mine.

First one lasted 3 months.
Second one lasted 2 week
Third one lasted 6 months.
Fourth one lasted 3 months.
Fifth one I don't know 'cos I got a replacement and sold it straight away, still wrapped. I wasn't taking the chance.

I've been a Microsoft supported for nearly 25 years now, since Windows 1.0, but having to go through the hassle of going through 4 consoles within a space of 13 months is just not good enough.

I don't mean to be argumentative but is that a joke ?,

I've had mine sitting on a marble stand elevated from the floor, hardly ever moved, dusted on a weekly basis, I used to think like you did, the day will come when you 360 gives up the ghost and when it does come on here and tell us what you did to cause it to breakdown please.

No it isnt a joke, its a serious question in all honesty. As for my 360 going kaput??, it probably will im sure but then im not so bothered by it as ive had it since dec2005 and have had many many hrs of enjoying it. Hell if it breaks in this yr then ill just buy a new one really, its no big deal unless i decide to go the SOGA route but then thats all dependant on when and if it breaks down. But you wont find me moaning about it, perhaps i will come here and ask for some advice when it does go kaput..
Christ some people are a bit too sensitive to things being said or asked in here...:p

Are you saying that it is your own fault if your 360 breaks down :(

Did i actually say that its peoples fault for their 360's breaking??..or did i imply such a thing. All i wondered was what people are doing that are causing their 360s to break down. I mean my 360 isnt in the most ventilated places itself but its still going on strong after almost a yr and half since buying it.

Im beginning to think that M$ might have given me a console that will last forever:p

james.miller - i appreciate the points you're trying to get across with regards to comparing photos of the motherboards etc. But one thing you fail to consider is the fact that these montherboards do not sell in their hundreds of thousands....millions...and certainly no where near the 10million mark the 360 has.

I would bet big money (ooh, 50pence) that in terms of ratios any of the components you can compare to the xbox 360 components have equally the same numbers of problems.

Its the basic principle that the more people who own a piece of hardware, the more problems will be reported.

And i'm not making any excuses about it's reliability (i really couldn't care less..it's a console)...but in the 360 you basically have a complete PC (like you say). Again, i bet there is a very similar ratio of PC owners having faulty hardware as the 360.

Hope my post makes sense, i know what i'm trying to convey...
:)

come don't be silly, I've owned every major console from the atari 2600 onwards from new, never have I ever seen such poor manufacturing as I have on the 360, when you invest the best part of 300 pounds on a machine you expect it to last a lot longer than a year, every owner that has had his/her 360 die has every right to be mad and should be issued with a full ranting license and anyone that contests them should be burn't at the stake :p

very true, and please dont take it the wrong way. it wasn't a dig at you, its just that argument of heat that people seem to use. in terms of heat causing the ic's to fail, no i dont buy it. you are right about numbers, but work off percentages. if ms produced only 2 million consoles by the end of the production run, the percentage of failures would be largely the same. Thats what disappoints me the most.

I really wanted an xbox, and i was going to buy an elite but now its just the same problems:(

Yeah, but for example, if MS produced and sold that 2million and the same went for that Axe 2 mobo you said...i'm pretty certain the failure rate would be very similar. Even if the 360 turned in a higher rate of failures that would be due to the additional components likely to have issues.

Get 360 dude...you'll soon learn the appreciate that there is more good than bad in the little grey, or black in your case, box! ;)
