I hate torrents... Any programs that can block them?

Right,

This is probably going to be in vain but here it goes...

I have a house mate who downloads via torrents all the damn time. Even when he's not downloading I suspect he just leaves the damn client program running either out of pure ignorance or convinience as he uses it to loacate where he's saved his downloaded files (why he doesn't just use windows explorer like anyone else I don't know). This of course is playing havoc with the bandwidth and indeed NAT settings.

How does this affect me? Well browsing the net is mostly fine but it's when I want to play an online game on the pc or play on xbox live + chat to mates it becomes a real problem. Constant lag and/or voice break ups and connectivity issues.

I've tried asking him to stop etc, long story short he pays the net bill so I have little say. I'm tired of having to conatntly ask him to knock it off or sneakily do it myself when he's away from his laptop. I'm aware you can perhaps block ports or disable UPNP etc but this would muck up my xbox's NAT (it always does and I cbb with this route as it's just more trouble than it's worth).

So I was wondering are there any programs that can block torrents from sucking up all the bandwidth? I suspect not as anything that blocks p2p services is going to block my xbox as well but hey, worth a shot in asking.

Cheers.

Some right butthurt people in here eh. I didn't realise you could get another line installed in the same property as I thought it was one phone line per household... Not too sure how that would work out. Anyone got multiple phone lines?

How is it freeloading? There is no issue with others using the network for free. If there was then I would have to pay. That's his choice.

I'm just after resonable and fair net usage. Not really asking for much surely? I never do anything that affects others net experience. He doesn't have to stop donloading altogether, but there is no need to suck up all the bandwidth all the damn time and prevent others from having a nice evening.

Anyway I've found a lol worthy soloution to my problem. Thanks for the input anyway people.

As already said, there is no issue with others using the net for free. It was here when we moved in, he paid for it then and does so now. That's his choice. I offered to pay before but he said he wasn't fussed. I highly suspect that even if I did pay towards it he would still leave the torrent client open and use up all the bandwidth. Then not only would I be annoyed as I am now, I would be ****ed.

Anyway I've got something that should pretty much sort the problem out. Thanks again for the input

So's downloading movies, music etc via torrents. He won't even realise what's happening. Like I said I'm pretty sure he just leaves the torrents going in the background and 'forgets' about them. He'll still be able to do his downloads, this just means it I can slip a few hours of gameing or chatting with mates in evey now and again.
