I hate virgin media, how are sky?

Sky LLU is meant to be very good, the rest not so much.

Actual speeds are likely to be pretty much the same as with any other provider, they're based on distance to the exchange more than anything else - contention rates are less of an impact than they were 10 years ago, for example.

AFAIK Sky doesn't have any usage caps whatsoever. I've heard mention of some P2P throttling at peak times, but the actual amounts are unlimited and it appears to be based on an active response to demand and keeping everyone's speed up rather than just blanket throttling P2P at those times.

Doesn't say on samknows if you can get LLU from Sky.

In that case I wouldn't bother because Sky Connect is absolutely rubbish & a lot worse than what you are probably putting up with now.

I wonder who the LLU provider is on your exchange because it says there is a presence but on the right hand list none of the providers have a tick next to them.

I went from Virgin to Sky because of Virgins costs and customer service was bad or well the dealing i had was..... When Virgin BB worked it was great i only had the basic 10Mb service but was happy with the speeds as it always hit 10mb or there abouts.

now with Sky was estimated 11mb - 18mb line speed i get 17.22mb which is good id say and the fact im on half price for 12 months too :-) BUT a big BUT even though im on the unlimited package this is the catch yes there is no download limit and they say they dont throttle the line speed?
hmmm at peak times i seem only to get about 10Mb or at worst 4Mb

Once I ran a speed test at 5pm on a friday and got 16Mb download rate come 7pm i did it again and only got 4Mb i tried every 15 mins and it stayed at 4Mb ish until it started to creap up at around midnight i was getting 8mb then 9mb ,11mb back to 8mb then 14Mb i went to bed at around 2am got up next day and it was at 18Mb again.....
ok they may not be throttling it themselves it could be heavy traffic or BT does somthing but it does seem to happen a lot around peak times.

That just sounds like contention issues rather than throttling.

Sky was rubbish for us. They called at 3:00 am...
And they promised 50mb, we got 2 mb
they promised 10mb upload
0.1 mb upload :(

I was wondering if sky are havingissues at the mo as my speed and ping has been all over the place since last wednesday. I usually get 600kbs on my 6.2mb line and a ping of 40ish but sadly thats not the case at the mo, sky have messed with different profiles. I was put on an 8mb profile adsl2+ but despite my upload speed being close to 1mb my pings were still bad.

I love sky so gonna ride this one out as they are very helpfull when you get to 2nd level support if anything goes wrong.

UPDATE
after more calls things are ok again but um... interleaving depth set to 32 instead of the nice 8 of the gamer profile.

well not good the fools that they are, look like exchange congestion to me

im getting virgin soon getting installed in a week or now im having second thoughts

If your signing up as a new customer you should be getting some decent deals + if you used quidco as well there was some nice cashback offers.

Have had solid performance on my broadband, its just a shame they don't offer the same prices for existing customers without a fight.
